WMMR Signal Crystal Clear in Rockland County NY 8/25/12

Had to attend a wedding in Nanuet New York this past Saturday and noticed WMMR was coming in crystal clear on my car radio. I know MMR has a strong signal but NY. Wow. Better than some parts of NJ.

Pretty typical for late summer. The Philly, Jersey Shore, Cape Cod, Providence, and Boston stations are regular catches.

This. I once had Q102 with RDS and everything all the way up in Newburgh, NY a year or so ago in late summer too. It's not all too uncommon.

There was a tropo opening in the northeast that's been going on for a week bringing in stations from North Carolina to Maine

Thanks thataveragejoe, what is RDS if you don't mind me asking?

It stands for Radio Data System, for simplicity it's the scrolling text display on your car radio with Station/Song Info.

Was bumming around north of Oakland NJ, in some motel along the Ramapo, one night when this song came over the 'average' portable radio (first time heard) : 'Born To Run', by Bruce Springsteen.

The station was WYSP 94.1 from Philly. Clear as a bell. There was fog all over the place. I knew I had 'trope', but WYSP was playing songs too good for me to tune away. That reception was long before anyone had heard of RDS. WYSP was that 'present' on the radio.

I was on the south shore of Long Island the last few days and on Sunday I was picking up Philly stations loud and clear alongside the Long Island and NYC signals. Monday morning I noticed WXKS at 107.9 out of Boston was quite evident. Usually WEBE out of Connecticut is heard and Boston and Providence stations were coming in very well. Tuesday everything seemed back to normal.

Must be the season.
