WMWM Salem - Doug Mascott, Bob "Racon Radio" Nelson

It's so true, Eli. The albums at MFO are in dreadful condition - MFO threw out thousands of CDs in 2000 - some primo stuff - and rumor has it WERS dumped a ton of vinyl that could've went to the Boston Public Library (or In Your Ear might've contributed something to the college and purchased it).By the way, Nik sure sounds like a broken record.Unfortunately, Nik, payola is one of those crimes that tends to get ignored. Trust me on this, though, the authorities are watching a certain ex-program director. You think I'm going to reveal my sources to you simply because you bait me at O's request? Please. Those "in the know" have seen my correspondence with the government regarding the Payola. And just because the record label I worked for was victimized by your ex-boss doesn't mean we are involved. My words EXACTLY to the President of the label were "Just stay away from Oedi, we don't need him." Lois Kennedy in from Geffen went to WBCN to negotiate (she had me work the song "Signs" by Tesla in Fall River and The Cape as part of the swap) - Lois had some choice words for Oedipus and what he was doing. Did you ever see that Album Network WBCN special with the advertisement featuring Oedi's hand in Andrew Govatsos' pocket "You've got a guy at Reprise". Looks like he certainly did.And by the way, Nik, it was the authorities who noticed certain e mails you sent me years back looked like the writing style of a certain program director. They didn't have as many spelling and grammar errors as yours did! HA! So your e mail was being read by the powers that be! You and Pulltack.Only Pulltack is back on BCN and you are...on radio-info!

p.s. Nik

P.S. Sorry we can't edit like the old format -Frank McKinney, real estate rock czar (looks like David Lee Roth actually) was on 60 Minutes last week.We scooped them on Visual Radio with a 60 minute interview conducted two months back!http://www.visual-radio.netStill going strong - 11 years! Woburn Access shut down awhile back, Nik. Where've you been? We moved out of Woburn 3 years ago...

ABC's 20/20

My apologies, Nik, it was actually Martin Bashir not Mike Wallace.and say what you will, I'm happy interviewing people for an hour every other week - 355 episodes now.I get paid well for some of the transcripts of the shows which get published - the Suzanne Vega interview was one of the lengthiest she's allowed. Here's the accurate appearance:Frank McKinney to be featured on ABC's 20/20 program May 5th, 2006 at 10:00pm EST. ABC's 20/20 and "Nightline" anchor and award-winning journalist Martin Bashir (best known for making landmark documentaries including "Living with Michael Jackson," and for his exclusive interview with the late Princess Diana) will chronicle Mr. McKinney's unique 20-year market making career, including being shown a sneak preview of his planned $125+ million mansion. ===================================================================

Congrats on the very timely Suzanne Vega interview, had I known you had scored a giant coup like that i would have asked you to have her autograph my rolling stone magazine from 1984 where she's mentioned briefly in the random notes section!. I'll be looking forward to your probing interviews with Juice Newton and Pablo Cruise........At least Barry Scott (who does a great show highlighting bands that are over), is smart enough to realize that the bands that he highlights; ARE OVER!. LOL ::)

Re:suzanne vega

Hi Nik, you've gone wayyy off topic, but to clarify, Suzanne was back in the 1990s. The show is 11 years old and355 programs strong. It was just an example. I noticed one of your guests, Pat Purcell, was on the front page of the Boston Herald a couple of days ago. Big difference, I don't insult my guests and make them leave the studio. I also have respect for EVERYONE, from Professor Stephen Hawking to Judy Collins, and even a guestthat was in my studio in 1979...a fellow named Oedipus. Interesting how you treat someone like a gentleman and out of the hundreds and hundreds of interviews I've conducted, there's only one former guest who was impolite years later. Interesting... Anyone you know???

11 years, 355 shows, NEARLY TWELVE VIEWERS, in a word? DYNASTY!. ::)

Ugh. Someone lock this thread already before we have to hear anymore about a cable access television show in a commerical radio forum.

The topic title of this thread is about WMWM, Salem - actually a non-commercial radio station.

Joe's cable access show has nothing to do with that, either.

True. What thread that he's involved with does not end up getting hijacked by his agenda? Like I said earlier new board, same old Joe, same old issues. He always finds a way to bring his politics, or Oedipus or me into it even when Im not involved because obviously every single post from anyone who disagrees with him is one of my MANY SCREEN NAMES, since Im obviously the only one who doesnt acknowledge and admire his work. ( note the sarcasm) For example "IstillhatepeoplenamedJoe" he is convinced is me, which it is not but that person posts something and then he starts yapping about me. In truth the thread was not even really about WMWM, it was about how Joe had a great time at WMWm not even being on tghe air but cleaning up a bunch of dusty old LP's which again has nothing to do with "Boston radio".

He used to think everyone who disagreed with him was Rich Carberry and that WRKO was "monitoring" this web site. So, shifting his paranoia to someone who actually posts here rather than someone who doesn't might be a sign of progress. Maybe.

thanks for the entertaining thread..as for WMWM... I don't hear it much anymore but it was the first place I heard punk rock, courtesy of my high school classmate Paul "Greeny" Greenberg. I'm eternally grateful to him for that.. and let's hear it for Captain Carl, Depraved Dave, Chris Corkum and the other fine DJ's of the late 70s/early 80s.. you too Bob... Depraved Dave Dodge was the DJ where I got my first taste of the Dead Kennedys.Actually, Greeny was also the one who told me about a cool punk show on WTBS (later WMBR) called "The Demimonde" hosted by a certain O-----s... whatever his radio dealings were later on, he had a pretty freakin' awesome show ca. '78

thanks for compliments...well we are on 24 hrs a day/night now (about time!)...I started in March of 81though technically I got there in fall of 80, just as the transmitter/board got fried...and I remember tuning inaround 79 or so and they had Depraved Dave on, etc.Anyone remember when the weekends were mostly jazz and some reggae, with the notable exceptions ofScott Merrill (oldies/AC) in the mornings?...At one point ('82?) I did the Sun 12-3 pm slot and playedcountry first two hours, reggae last hour!Pictures of old WMWM jocks at link below. That's Chris Corkum in the Batman shirt (with Ed Walters). You can also see: Steve Nadolna, Steve Lochiatto, John O'Neill, Paula Flynn, Joe DeFranco, me (Dukakis shirt believe it or not), Chris Kennedy, John Caron, Amy Davis, Joey Lessard, John "Bonue" Clemeno, Tony Giardihttp://geocities.com/wmwm1981/pictures.htmlCapt Carl= Melrose's Carl D'Agostino, right?

Speaking of Greg Hawkes of the Cars, he produced a local band called the Mystery Tramps (13-16 yr old kids).I got IDs from them (and recorded them) at the Dodge St. last October. I guess one of their dads' knew Greg. They were on our Tracks of the Town
