I have always been a big fan of Erik. I remember him when he started out in 1990 at WFBC-FM when it was Oldies B 93.7. Erik started out overnights and worked himself up to the afternoon drive show. I also recall the 70`s Oldies show that he synicated for many years called "the third decade of Rock and Roll". He later took his co-hot Spanky Jim Miller to WBFM 98.1 in Seneca where they helped out with the Oldies format. I believe that he has been at WMYI-FM MY 102.5 since 1996 where he hosted "The 70`s at Night" before Deliaha was picked up in 1997. I know that he does ALOT of commericals. I really think that now he is WAY over used!!!!!!!!!! I now hear him doing commericals for about 30 other car lots!!!!!!! I can somewhat understand them using him so much because he is good at his craft. However, when I heard him make the comment on the Kia of Anderson commerical this morning that "the price of gas is going to rise to between $6.00-$7.00 a gallon before the end of the summer", I lost alot of respect for him. Why would he make this STUPID comment? Gas is actually going down! It has gone down about 12 cents a gallon in Anderson in the past few days. I was listening to Erik doing the Sundat afternoon 70`s Oldies show yesterday. He seems to now only speak in small soundbites which are not very interesting at all. This is far from the uplifting educated D.J. that I remember from WFBC/WBFM. Clear Channel should pull those Kia ads A.S.A.P. before WMYI becomes a laughing stock!

Yes, money is important, but this case is an example of a liner from a commerical that makes the radio station look stupid for airing it. Where did they get the idea that gasoline will be $7.00 a gallon by the end of the summer? It is actually going DOWN! I saw it for $3.58 today. Local media outlets DO have a very large obligation to filter content that may go on the air. I don`t buy this cheap garbage that $$$$$$ rules and nobody in charge has the bal&s to do anything about it. I know of local programmers who have been in the buisness for many years, and they would NEVER allow this kind of stuff to air. Do we have $$$$$ motivated corporate radio stations. Yes, we do. But, look at the decline of their product in many cases. Some of these radio station (like WMYI) were robust and full of energy, talent and money 10 or so years ago. Many of these stations (like WMYI again) have been stripped of most talent (on-air and off) and in some cases only have 1 or 2 local d.j.`s. Stations like this will continue to decline if nothing is done. this morning, nobody read the news on WMYI. Bill and Sue were off and the show sounded like crap, in my opinion. New young talent won`t have the outlets to develop their crafts. I don`t see how anybody can say that this is good for radio. If we use the logic of the previous poster here, anything goes, if the price is right. Yea, it might if you are "dealing under the table". But time has a way of catching up with this type of behavior and costing someone their job who behaves like this.

XM is great. So is Sirius. And now they are getting together. But please remember, if you live in the midlands area that we may have a LOCALLY OWNED talk station up and runing very soon. I hope to find the good business owners of the midlands market supportive.

Goodtimesandgreatoldies said:I do not buy the fact that we should just "shut up" and allow and not question corporate radio. These companies vary in size. Yes, giants like Clear Channel and CBS radio are huge, but alot of the other ones are much smaller.
Goodtimesandgreatoldies said:Well, Scott you are certainly entitled to your opinion. It is interesting that you have talked about working at WKZQ back in the 1980`s. I was always fond of KZQ and really enjoyed an early morning Sunday Morning show that was done by a guy on there named Scrabough?? Is that the correct spelling??? He played great classic rock and roll off of the original records! You could hear it when the needle would hit a scratch. One could make the case that WKZQ was much better when it was loaclly owned. Scott, are you still at WKZQ? I had an old friend named Darren who worked at WKZQ back on the 1990`s. Did you know him? What ever happened to him? He was a Coastal Carolina product also. As far as making the case with the FCC, it could be made. However, my point is that as broadcasters, good taste must be used. Think about the old days at WKZQ. I know the old local owners were tight about what aired. Do you think that they would have aired such ads? I recall some Purple Gator Nightclub ads being pulled from WKZQ in about 1990, because the management didn`t like the "Thong" contest ads? Do you remember that? Or the "Getlaidiam" Drinks ads from the Pallidium Nightclub that were also pulled?
