WNCX Sat Night House Party preempted for arena football

I know it's kind of a late post, and I hope I'm not retreading another thread here...but WNCX has preempted Mr. Classic's Saturday Night Live House Party with arena football for two weeks in a row. I'm pretty sure this breaks the tradition of Funkadelic's "Maggot Brain" being played on Cleveland FM every Saturday night since the late '70s.

I guess it's a test run for the eventual flip of 98.5 to an all-sports format, and for the Browns next year. But I would bet the farm that there weren't 100 people in WNCX' broadcast radius listening to arena football play-by-play on a Saturday night. Maybe there's some sort of contractual thing where 92.3 normally airs the arena games and they got booted to 98.5 to make room for March Madness coverage on 92.3. I hope it's temporary, whatever the reason is.

The Gladiators got bumped to NCX due to The Fan carrying March Madness. 92.3 is Glads' flagship and will run the rest of the games.

NCX hasn't changed anything format-wise in 25 years, and I don't see it changing anytime soon.

98.5 is along for the Browns ride to carry the games on their strong signal, but the key to the deal was the Brownies being able to load up WKNR and The Fan with all sorts of secondary programming during the week.

Outside of the games, it's busines as usual on WNCX.

or it was just using cluster resources to clear a game.

Nothing to see here.

I think Browns football help WNCX beat out WMMS in the ratings wars. 'NCX will still have their loyal listeners along some new ones too. 'MMS would have to do more with their playlist, and have something to offer other than Rover, Alan Cox and the Indians. I think the Buzzard will have a huge drop once the Indians season ends.

Speaking of 'NCX, could they spice up their classic rock playlist...or possibly their rock format...after the Browns start their season. Just a question even though its helping CBS and WKRK with FM coverage.

And speaking of 'MMS - 1. Just saw that Cox was voted Best Personality and Best Radio Show. He's good, but I personally think the show is missing something. Bill Squire is funny, but Chad Zumock really brought something to the ACS that really can't be replicated. Erika to me doesn't strike me as interesting as I would like to see a stronger female in that role. By the way, I really don't care for Cox's haircut IMO.

2. Is the Sixx Sense gone for good? It's not on the 'MMS website anymore under Jocks. I did hear Nikki Sixx's show on 99X one night this week. I wonder if that's a contract obligation. Maybe its just during the Indians season.

3. I also saw on the 'MMS website they mention they're the FM home of the Indians "with the exception of weekday-day games." I guess Cox wasn't too thrilled with the idea of The Tribe cutting into his show.

I really think NCX will just be business as usual except for the fact that they'll have the games. I don't see them either tweaking the playlist or pulling an MMS and evolving into a mancave station.

Methinks Sixx Sense went over to 99X due to the Tribe. They'll probably be back on the Buzzard once baseball season is over.

And the no weekday baseball caveat probably is to not disturb Cox.

I kind of like the Saturday Night House Party, at a time when virtually every other FM radio station is deep into automation, they're doing a live radio show, pretty cool.

Kinda what I figured. I know there's been rumors/speculation on here before of CBS switching the Fan to 98.5's signal, especially if they land something like a contract with the Browns. Not that I thought that was happening in the immediate future, but I guess conjecture is part of what these boards are for. I was kinda surprised that I didn't see or hear anything on the WNCX website, or from the DJ that preceded the arena football broadcast, as to whether this was temporary or not. Ah well, thanks for the clarification!

Yeah, I'm a fan of what they have going on over there. Aside from the fact that Saturday night is kind of a repository for syndicated House Of Hair-type stuff on rock stations in most markets, Mr. Classic plays some really off-the-wall stuff sometimes.
