Folks, when I was 3, I remember in the morning when the announcer Jorge Ramos (longtime news anchor on WNJU and not to be confused with Univision news anchor of the same name) was used to sign-on from June 1986 on WNJU channel 47, so we found on YouTube and here's what Jorge Ramos says about the sign-on in the moring on WNJU channel 47:

Good morning
this is WNJU-TV

located at 47 Industrial Ave.
in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ

With transmitter in antenna
located at the
World Trade Center
in New York City

WNJU-TV has licensed by the
federal communications commission
to be operated by WNJU-TV
broadcasting corporation
on the frequency of 600 and 68
to 600 and 74 megaherts

Fortunes of were hermaning
have been pre-recorded
on Video Tape

Now, we welcome you
to the beginning of
another channel 47

Ramos, from what I remember, did both sign-offs and sign-ons. Until about 1984 or 1985, Ramos used to alternate every other day/night with Eusebio Valls, another Channel 47 news anchor who dated to the early 1970's, in doing same. I see that some of the quotes were what his accent sounded like, let me try to translate:
- With transmitter in antenna . . . should be "transmitter and antenna."
- 600 and 68 to 600 and 74 megaherts . . . 668-674 MHz.
- Fortunes of were hermaning . . . should be "Portions of our programming . . . "

Also up to about 1985, WNJU broadcast "from studios in the Symphony Hall Building in Newark, New Jersey (sounded like "Yairsy" coming from Ramos or Valls)." That was also known as the Mosque Theatre, located at 1020 Broad Street, former home of WATV/WNTA-TV (Ch. 13) before that station was revamped as educational station WNDT in 1962 (now PBS affiliate WNET).

As to the New York-area Spanish-language stations, I seem to recall WXTV (Ch. 41 - er, "Canal Cuarenta-y-Uno") alternating between Spanish and English in their sign-ons and sign-offs.
