WNOK-FM's morning show is out of place

I listened to WNOK's morning show this morning and it sounded horribly out of place on a pop station and the rest of the line-up ie Ryan Seacrest. Two old geezers attempting to talk about politics, making juvenile jokes about Chinese and Japanese people, and using outdated jokes that might a be only worth a chuckle 40 years ago. I know a lot of pop stations often have awful morning shows but WNOK's has to be one of the worst I've heard in a long time. Their morning show must have expiration date was in 1989 because it is now very sour...

Personally I think that Clear Channel made a huge mistake of moving Jonathan Rush to WCOS. I am sure that they would be still be getting better ratings if they had left well enough alone, they were just looking to cut their costs every way possible and sometimes being cheap doesn't always come out being the best. I definitely think that Ace and T.J. are John boy and Billy without the research.

I actually gave them a chance, but once one of the dudes said "It's Government Environmental Regulation that shut down all the RV manufacturers," they lost me. If you are going to talk politics, you must have a grasp of the topic. There have been no RV-impacting regulation changes. People stopped buying RV's because they cost, on average, almost $100,000 and the fuel prices $3/plus, with an economy already quickly and obviously sliding into the worst recession since the Great Depression.

I've lived in a couple markets with great morning shows and adequate morning shows. I have heard shows that sound larger than the market they are in. The current WNOK show isn't one of them. Check the affiliate list, and you'll see what I am talking about.

I agree with all of you. The most perplexing thing about this is, CHR is about what? The hottest hit music. And these guys not only seem unprepared, but they only play two or three songs an hour.

When I hear all the BS reasons why were in this Depression they call a recession I think to myself (man I wonder how many people buy this crap). Although it is hard to put a finger on one certain thing you can just about bet that gas prices going to 3 and 4 dollars a gallon pulling most all of the money out of general circulation and into oil companies bank accounts as people try to get to work and live. I see gas is starting to rise again for summer and so the economy will slow down and slump as pump prices go up. Needless to say I don't need to hear too much of their comments on morning shows when they make little or no sense or are built on some BS reason that was given to try and explain something instead of the truth.

Gate:

The politicos of all stripes are afraid to call it a depression. But that what economists of all stripes say it is: an economic contraction. There are a number of conditions that made it possible, but rising consumer prices and declining real and nominal wages is not a positive thing. It's a quick or slow path to the poor house for all but the fortunate who could save large amounts of cash and the few that are wealthy.

And on the way to the poor house, we can at least say we didn't listen to Ace and TJ. Excellent summation about them, Dudefan.

It's frustrating that even though Ace & TJ are Clear Channel's competition in Charlotte, they think this show is worth airing in other markets.

Is the Ace & TJ show really that good that Clear Channel can't even use their own people?

I was surprised they used a mid-market CBS show, myself, given the large Premium Choice roster.

What's also weird about Charlotte is that it has turned out some major major morning talent, but can only manage to have one or two really polished music morning shows. I am excluding WBT (news) and including WLNK (mostly talk). Bob & Sheri and JB&B are about it.

But think at one time Charlotte had at one point Jay Thomas, Robert Murphy, even Jonathan Rush... and that's just top of mind.

Interesting, Bugz. Never thought of that because it isn't often a successful strategy. Pay for carriage was one of the reasons Air America was doomed to fail from the start.
