Hey everyone!
Thanks for the discussion of Radio Now 93.1! Forgive me as I have not posted on this board in over 4 years, however I do check it about once a month to read everyone’s discussions. Being only in Indianapolis for a short period of time, it’s great to read a historic retrospect on the city and radio within the borders of Indiana.
I have chosen not to comment on naming of DUI arrestees bit that the Morning Mess is doing. I feel they can comment if they chose to do so.
But, I would love to talk about your opinions of Radio Now 93.1!
In a radio age where it is critical to be creative and use compelling content to remain top of mind, I believe that Radio Now 93.1 has done nothing but that since it signed on in 2000. You may not agree with the bits and topics we talk about on the radio, however, it is content, and that’s how we decided to compete with I-PODS, streaming and other online, emerging technologies. Much better than voicetracking!
The days of liners jocks are gone. A break not talking about something compelling is a wasted break. We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel, but at least make the wheel more entertaining.
In response to the “teeny-bopper” comment from before, we do happen to have a large teen base with Indianapolis. However, that traditionally comes with the format. Would you believe that the Justin Timberlakes, Rihannas, Fergies and T-Pains test better with the 22-28 females than the teens? It’s true and we use that as a tool.
It’s no mystery that Radio Now 93.1 has been in an up-hill battle for the last couple of years. Trust me, we know. We work hard at it everyday to make our 25 year old female happy. We have a talented sales staff and incredible management and personalities. It’s not the preferred radio station of people on this board, but there are people that do love Radio Now 93.1 and that’s why we program to them.
The “Britney Spears / Teen Music” comment made me laugh a bit. According to my Selector, the last Britney Spears record that was in a current rotation was “My Prerogative” on 10/18/2004 and only played 83 times. The current focus of Radio Now 93.1 is what’s hot. Play the hits. Same Top 40 philosophy since 1955.
Thank you very much for the props on “Orbital 93-1.” My old PD, Chris Edge was programming that up until he left in April, I have since taken over and program our HD2 channel on a daily basis. The feedback on the channel has been OVERWHELMING! Everyone loves it! That makes us happy to know that our hard work on an unknown medium doesn’t go unrecognized. Once HD radios become more common, expect more jocks, more promotions and more content rather than just a jukebox.
Again, thanks again for all your comments and opinions. If you ever want to talk radio or about Radio Now 93.1, I have left all my information below.
Respectfully,
Tim Rainey
