WNWS-FM Jackson Sold To End Legal Battle Between Two Talkers

https://radioinsight.com/headlines/...sold-to-end-legal-battle-between-two-talkers/

A legal battle between two Jackson TN Talk outlets has been resolved with Grace Broadcasting Services purchasing 101.5 WNWS-FM Jackson TN from The Wireless Group.

The Wireless Group had filed for a temporary restraining order against Grace in May after Dan Reaves exited the station to join Grace’s “News Talk West Tennessee” 93.1 WTJS-FM Alamo in the same 8-11am timeslot. Wireless Group alleged that Reaves had a non-compete in his contract and must sit out one year before joining a competing broadcaster. Wireless Group also sued Reaves himself with allegations including violating his contract, intentionally interfering with its business and revealing company secrets to a competitor.

It was said that WNWS-FM was sold quickly and unexpectedly. It will be interesting to see what Grace does with two news-talk stations in the Jackson area.

Also of note about Grace Broadcasting: Michael Brandt’s Southern Broadcasting from Florence, AL is purchasing 1150 WDTM and Rock “93.9 The Fox” WWGM Selmer, TN from Grace for $250,000. Brandt has been operating the stations via a time brokerage agreement since January, 2019 and also operates CHR “Hot 100” 100.7 WYDL Middleton, TN.

I sort of expect a simulcast of the two, or a format change on one of them.

Or there could possibly be a combining of the programs from both stations and simulcast. In any case there are still too many FM news/talk stations in Jackson. I've noticed 93.1 apparently plays oldies at times on weekends, but Grace tried that with Hippie Radio on 105.3 and eventually went to sports talk. I guess they've given up on any kind of music format on FM except for filler. I still wish they would sell one of their stations to EMF to get Air 1 into the area.

who says EMF wants to buy?

also, talk stations are cheaper to operate then music stations.. you still have to pay music licensing for a talk station but its very minimal.

I still remember filling out those BMI logs at a Christian talk station where I once worked. It was usually "theme music" or "open"/"closing theme," etc. Didn't even really have to know a lot about the music. And I'm sure that a lot of it (hymns, etc.) were public domain, anyway. Filling out those logs was usually fairly easy at that station.

Why Air-1? Their content is now all Worship tunes, with a faster pitch sound to the music.

I had in mind from when Air 1 was a more rock oriented CCM station at the time I was typing. I knew better though. It's times like this that I wish we could edit posts longer.
