WODS/Boston: Barry Scott's Saturday Night Dance Party gone??

Barry was the promotions director at WZLX in 1989 when Wharfield was there.

He used to spin at the nightclubs - 1270 in the 1980s (which became the Latin club Sophias, across from the old WBCN, though I hear it may be closed).

I think it was Greg Strassell put Barry on at WODS after Greg allegedly pushed Little Walter out the door
after Walter was promoting WODS on Channel 2. It appears WODS got all the promotion they could from
Walter before making the switch.

It's possible the show's title at WERS was The Goldmine

His show was "The Gold Rush" on WERS in the early 80's.

He's been on the air in Boston pretty consistently since then. First on WZLX (I recall WBCN, not yet co-owned with WZLX, had a parody put-down promo of "Lost 45's" as part of their competition campaign against WZLX at the time), then I don't remember the exact order, but I think he was on the original WROR/WBMX (98.5), WEGQ (Eagle 93.7), perhaps WBOS (though I don't remember that), briefly on the current WROR (105.7) in 2001, then he went directly from there to WODS in 2002.

On WROR and WODS in the same year - 2001.

If memory serves me correctly, Barry went to WBOS after WZLX dumped him. It was considered a good jesture for Granum which had just bought WBOS. About a year or 2 later he was off the air for "one week" then ended up at Mix 98.5. After American Radio Systems bought The Eagle, he was switched over to 93-7.
I also remember his brief stint at 105.7 WROR then going to Oldies 103.3.

For the record, Mauzy Stafford was back on the air this afternoon ( Sunday) although I dont think she was on at 2pm. Pretty sure I heard someone else in the 2pm hour but I wasnt listening later on. She might have the 3-7 shift. She just signed off for Mighty Mike and the new Sat 70s show.

I'm only REASONABLY sure Mauzy wasnt on yesterday (Saturday).

WODS has not updated Barry Scott's profile to delete the Saturday Night Dance Party. However, they have slightly redone the overall bio page and added in Mighty Mike's name although there is nothing there for him yet except a cartoonish smiley face. Essentially, his bio is "Coming Soon".

And they have a new On-Air pic of "Saturday Night 70s with Mike Osborne" that looks very....well....70's-ish. ::)
