WOMG 98.5 Lexington SC (Cumulus) Switches to Classic Hits

As of 2pm Today 98.5 WOMG Nash Country switched to 98.5 Classic Hits. Live Stunting "5000 Songs in a Row Commercial Free."

Should never have changed. Awful ratings did in that Nash Icon station. Much better fit as classic hits/oldies. Benji Norton is moving over from 107.5 the Game to do mornings.

Is this a sign of things to come? Just being fair - many of Cumulus' NASH-branded stations are under-performing around the country. Even with a 6K-A stick, WOMG should have done better.

It's unfortunately how rock based the playlist is....music's not as good as the old WOMG pre-flip. Very little pop and/or R&B.

Now that the Dickeys are out, Cumulus is allowing programming decisions to be made at the market level, and the brand managers are working more as consultants than dictators. Most likely, the decision to Nash (and Nash Icon) 98.5 was made at the corporate level. It was a bad decision from the get go.

Some Nash stations do well; others don't. It seems like the new launches haven't done particularly well. Some of that may be mediocre Nash programming, but country has always been a difficult win for an upstart. Country audiences tend to be loyal, and the top rated country stations in most markets are programmed very well. Those factors made a formidable 1-2 punch against any upstart.

In an effort to make Columbia SC radio suck even more. Cumulus is switching 98.5 to Classic Hits. It kind of mirrors Clear Channels Steve-FM 96.7
Benji Norton will be back leaving 107.5 TheGame' "Early Show" for 98.5 with "Breafast with Benji," after live stunting and reimaging.
So far, Steve FM is the uncle that took you out to a strip club and got you drunk for graduation. 98.5 Classic Hits is the uncle that gave you a Cross Pen that you lost 3 weeks after graduation.

Couldn't help but notice that Fox 102 responded by immediately switching from "Columbia's Rock Station" back to "Classic" Rock.

Now if the music would just reflect the same change

I listened for a few hours at work today, and I'm mostly inclined to agree with Zoot. WOMG didn't sound like a particularly bad classic hits station, but it didn't sound like a particularly good one either. It didn't do anything to make me tune it out, but it didn't do anything to make me want to tune it in again either.
