WORD IS OUT...KZEP SOLD BY LOTUS TO CC.

From Radio-Info News-

To satisfy the Department of Justice, they have to divest one station each in San Francisco and Las Vegas, and two stations each in Houston and Cincinnati. Meanwhile, they’ve got room under the cap to own another FM in San Antonio. So how about a swap with Lotus Communications involving KZEP – Lotus’ only station there – and a Clear Channel station in, say, Las Vegas, where Lotus already operates? Plus maybe another property there or somewhere else, to make it even-steven? The DOJ seems focused mostly on Clear Channel’s Spanish stations in places like Vegas. So perhaps Lotus-owned “La Preciosa” KWID (101.9) is in the conversation. It would fit – and again, it would show you that the folks in the San Antonio Home Office are moving heaven and earth (and a few courts) to shove this deal to the finish line.

That is a great idea. Outlaw would only grow to even a bigger cash cow than what it already is!

Cash cow? The station is about 24th in market billings and likely does not make any money at all.

Yep, as a former CC/SA employee...i can attest that it is a huge biller.

You were either lied to, or your definition of "huge biller" is incorrect.

You don't have to believe me. Its cool. But I am just basing this on facts. Not opinion. The station bills well...period. It would have never lasted this long if it didnt build some notable revenue. Now, the rumors of CC putting the station on the KZEP signal i'm not sure about. But I would think it would make OUTLAW an even bigger financial builder.

It bills less than $1 milion, and is 24th in billing in the market. Those are figures from one of the two recognized industry sources, not opinion.

KZEP's current format bills nearly 5 times as much.

As Jim Rome would say, "You're pulling out of you Asssssss Maahn." Outlaw was a savior format for that station, but it is only recently that it has able to pay the light bill and the salary of one or two support people. Not bad for a c2 40 miles south of downtown, but cetainly not a "major biller"

You don't really expect to come in here and make incredible-yet-vague claims and nobody question you? Also, you appending "period" at the end of a ridiculous statement doesn't make it true. This is San Antonio and the year is 2008. The market bills ~120 million. An FM, billing a million dollars or less is neither impressive nor does it make it a cash cow. 1100 KDRY, with its huge 3-person staff, is in that same neighborhood.

Plus, The Outlaw doesn't even get a city-grade signal inside of 1604. This is not a competitive station.

It would have never lasted this long if it didnt build some notable revenue.

That station has gone through how many formats in the last 5 years? Maybe Clear Channel has hung on, not because it is lucrative, but because they don't have a lot of good options.

What's a "financial builder"? I am not familiar with that term.

It's an anomaly: A strong billing, stand-alone FM, playing the same format for twenty years, despite a revolving door in the morning show, no marketing, and a skeleton crew, it currently tied for no. 4 A25-54. It's amazing what a great stick in a classic rock town can deliver. CC, if they ever do close the deal with Lotus, will do best to keep KZEP more or less as it is.

Hopefully they learned their lesson with KZPS in Dallas.....Which is right back to where it was before what became the whole "Lonestar" abortion a year ago. JOhn Hogan found out he's NOT a programmer

Seriously, when was the last time that KZEP was any good? Waste of a good signal.

Thanks for setting me straight..I was getting worried noone would. ::) For a station with 2 main sales people, literally 1 person running the ENTIRE operation and a horrible rimshot signal. I thought it was lower. looks great to me considering :)
