I love it. I think I saw Clear Channel hired him. I guess he'll be looking for another job in about 6 months! ;D

They might want to bolt down their equipment. I'm curious if anything came up missing yesterday after his interview with Dave and Jimmy.

Not if he's Bob Conners replacement. BC got on the air early this morning and said to check his blog for a posting on Ted Williams, "The next replacement for BC" he said. BC then said that most new people in radio want a 'prime spot' so maybe he was joking but BC has been on WTVN for almost five decades now. http://www.610wtvn.com/pages/pp_bobconners.html

Also on the WNCI morning show this morning, they said Howard Stern said this is all hoax.

Well I know I want to listen to an ex-con on the radio who has a pretty extensive rap sheet. ::)
I wonder how the people who he's ripped off for the last 20 years feel about this guy?

Hilarious. I remember even way back there was always one person that was a thief.
Cart machines, reel to reels disappearing. I recall one guy backing his truck up to the loading dock, and hauling off cases of sodas! Now......"Don't forget and leave that flash drive in the computer". :)

I'm going to do a followup on this tomorrow.

Can we list all the stations he worked for?

Here's what seems like a list of the stations I've seen so far:

WJZA/107.5
WVKO/1580 (in urban/soul format)
The currently named WVKO-FM/103.1 (is this the "Z" he mentions, or is 107.5, or both? I forget the "Z" calls for 103.1, WSMZ?)
WJMO/1490 (Cleveland market, licensed to Cleveland Heights)

This one says he worked overnight at WVKO-AM in the early 80s.

Ted Williams, the homeless man whose video on the Columbus Dispatch has gone viral and is being showcased on all the major TV networks, worked at a Columbus station in the early 80s. The homeless man with the golden radio voice was hired at Josephson’s WVKO-AM by program director K.C. Jones and station manager Harry Lyles to do middays.

Williams replaced Ike Murray, who was heading to Detroit. At that time, the GM was Steve Joos; the late Kirk Bishop did afternoons and Ohio State student Rob Morris (currently KDWB PD) landed his first radio gig working part-time at WVKO.

Email from Rob Morris of KDWB:

Artie,

Yes. I worked with Ted at WVKO in Columbus, OH in the 80s.

So, yes, I do know him.

Rob Morris
Operations Manager/Program Director
KDWB-FM

Also, I have another local Columbus person that confirms that he worked at WVKO in the 80s.

Half the people in radio have a rap sheet. Who are you the Lilly White Virgin of the airwaves?

Half the people huh? Well that explains why radio so f'ing bad these days. Are you one of those people who still think OJ is innocent? You know what Mr. Harmon? I've never in my life claimed to be perfect but I can say to you without a doubt that I've never been a thief, I've never robbed anyone, I've never committed forgery, I've never been arrested for drug possession, and I'm not a crackhead like your boy Ted. Maybe it's time somebody starts doing extensive background checks on people like you?

Bottom line folks, he is trying to turn his life around. He may have been a thief and all that, but people do change. He is doing something that so many others don't even attempt. I'd rather listen to his voice than most DJ's voices anyway. But that is my opinion, and somebody somewhere is always going to have a negative opinion and comment. I personally try to find the good in every person.

Its called accentuating the positive and eliminating the negative. This is a great example on how
this can/should be applied.

Let's not be too naive. He's been a hooligan for at least half of his life. How are we to believe that he's been honest about being sober for the last 2 1/2 years? I don't buy it.

"He was most recently arrested on May 14. He pleaded guilty to a first-degree misdemeanor theft charge. In court records, his address is listed as "Streets of Columbus."

Then he goes on the Today show all jittery and says that he used to steal to support his drug habit. That's inconsistent with what he's claimed. Bottom line, I don't trust him.

Exactly. If a person is recovering, and is filled with negativity, that's not going to help him/her out any. A person like him is still probably sore from his previous actions. However, I do enjoy reading the bashing over the internet. It's usually a good laugh and a good taste of a persons character. What I enjoy even more is when people actually drop the gloves, instead of slamming the keyboard tray back into the desk after typing a slam.

Believe nothing you hear, and all that you know. I do respect your decision on not trusting the guy; however, my father was an alcoholic over half his life. Hasn't had a drop in 18 years. I tend to be a believer, and to not judge someone for their previous actions.

If HALF of the broadcasters in radio never got a 2nd chance - there'd be nobody working! Ease up on the bitterness and instead just wish the guy well. He went on National TV and admitted his past. When YOU are at your lowest, would YOU open up to your own sins like that? Best to just wish the guy well........there is a lesson here that I see alot of people seem to choose to miss......

Hey, I hope he takes this chance to turn his life around, I truly do. I'm just a little bit skeptical, that's all. The odds are stacked against him.
