Worst songs on country radio

Hum.Not to drift off topic again.Looking at the mainstream charts today.We need a cover version of the Barbara Mandrell's tune"I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool" with the words going "I Was Rock When Rock Wasn't Cool ". Due to all the dance and rap,hip hop teenybopper tunes on top of the charts and playlists.Older artists like the Eagles,Fleetwood Mac,Tom Petty,The Stones,Pat Benetar,Heart and my favorite Stevie Nicks will never see the top 10 of the top 100.Ok .Back on topic.I think the reason why country is going in this direction is by keeping it alive with the younger demos.If country music still sounds like it did in the 60's and the 70's .They probably have to throw in the towel and close up Nashville.due to no income.the older artists will just retire or do live shows on the Grand Ole Opry or in Branson.Some new tunes are good .and some are crap.

I'm pretty sure the song has been mentioned but I heard something absolutely terrible. I waited around long enough to hear lyrics that might be a title, and it was "Cowboy Casanova" by Carrie Underwood.

Already did that. DTV forced me to get cable. Plus a couple of antennas just in case, and for those channels that aren't on cable because of where I live. TiVo also cost money. If not for DTV, I could have sprung for XM. Now we have this light bulb garbage about to happen too.

Yes I am bored of songs about living the country lifestyle set to a rock beat. One thing I appreciate about older country is that it was taken for granted the artists were country, they didn't have to prove themselves with cliche lyrics.

Fully agree with both of you! Country has to be one of the most inwardly directed formats out there. Case in point: latest example that I can think of: Easton Corbin singing, "I'm a Little More Country Than That." If you must tell us how "country" you are, then you probably aren't very "country" at all! Enough with all these inwardly directed songs about the format itself! Other formats have "inwardly directed" songs, too, but it seems like country has the most of them. Must be an insecurity issue. I'm rural (grew up in the country), but I'm not "country" (as they describe it in their music) at all.

Well people will say anything on TV when presenting an award, especially when presenting an award where the fans don't get to vote and corruption in the voting system is undeniable, but it also proves that mainstream country music has changed dramatically. Currently I feel Miranda has come back to making good music, but she will never top her first album. Her style has changed. Her first album showed us what she was capable of... then she came out with Kerosene and we saw her talent change over-night. In my opinion, it was not for the better.

But with regards to Loretta, she has no reason to lie. She can tell it like it is, and no one forces her to compliment someone. She's been saying nice things about Miranda for years. She invited Miranda to her house in Hurricane Mills, and they've spent a lot of time together. That night on the CMA Awards, Miranda and Loretta sang together. I really doubt Loretta was lying.

No argument there. Carrie and Taylor are far from true country, much further than Miranda.

...and most all of miranda lamberts singles released in the last couple years, have easily been some of the best damn stuff around . think about it: "white liar" "the house that built me". its hard to believe stuff this good could still be played on countryradio, and score hit status too. kinda like when leanne womack graced the rotation list a few years ago.

I admit that she has gotten better in recent years, but she had a time of complete crap not so long ago. But her first album is still arguably her most-country (despite noticeably inexperienced) album to date.

Has anyone here actually heard her first album? If not, then you really can't compare.

what is the name of that first album? any hit singles off it?i spent some time looking for it in my 5,000+ hard copy library of country/bluegrass/folk. couldnt seem to locate it in the loosely unorganized stacks, and shelves. pretty sure i have it somewhere, and wanna take a second listen, based upon your post.

The album is self-titled and self-released. It did not produce any major hits. It is becoming quite valuable, as it has not been re-released in any form. The last one I saw sell on Ebay was for $325, and I would not pay that for it. It is a good album, but I would not call it exceptional. There is too much inexperience and clearly made before she made singing her professional career.

Totally disagree. No it's not some polished album fit for corporate country stations programed in New York City (New York City?) but there's some really great songs. I'd prefer this over her new stuff any day.

I never said I didn't like it. I think she did a great job on Wichita Falls, and several others. It is by far my favorite album from her. It just over-all doesn't seem well put-together in my opinion. Some of the songs seem too similar to be on the same album. I suppose that is the point, being an album that was about what she knows best and what she felt.

I have 2 of those early Eilleen Shania Twain albums. The songs are the same ones but have been sold under a lot of different album titles, like For The Love Him and others. I like the different sounds like rock and pop to some of the country music that she did like her first album and The Woman In Me.
