WOULD IT BE GREAT IF (WIOG FM 102.5) INCREASED THEIR POWER TO REACH MORE AREAS?

102.5 FM WIOG NEEDS TO MAKE THEIR STATION AS POWERFUL AS 96.1 FM WHNN AT 100,000 WATTS.

WIOG could raise their antenna height and raise their wattge to lets say 150,000 watts to better fight (Mount Clemens/Detroit Hip Hop Station WHTD FM Hot 102.7)
from interfering with 102.5 WIOG in certain areas of the Metropolitan Detroit Michigan area.

If WIOG had a 150,000 watt to 200,000 watt signal, people as far north as Alpena, Michigan could hear WIOG and people as far south as metro Detroit's northwest and western suburbs like Ann Arbor could pick up 102.5 FM WIOG.

I like 102.5 FM WIOG.

I wish I could have a billion dollars fall into my lap, too, but that isn't happening, either.

Unless you're grandfathered for more, the max is 100kW.

I used to work part-time at WIOG back in 1990. For you young kids out there, that was the time when WIOG was a ratings monster.

A few points...

1. WIOG's antenna height and signal strength are just fine. That stick is a mothrafudger, and reaches plenty of areas just fine.

2. Metro Detroit is not WIOG's market. It would be nice if they could reach a few homes on the outskirts, but they'll never compete with Detroit stations, nor should they try.

3. WIOG can win, not with a stronger signal, but with better programming. If they focus that tremendous signal on Bay City/Saginaw/Midland/Flint (anyone else remember the top of hour jingle?) they'll do just fine.

In the just released new book WIOG is Saginaw's number one rated radio station, just a tenth of a share shy of double digits! I know that back in the late 80s it held monstrous ratings in the 20 share range, but a 9.9 share in 2008 is VERY impressive. WIOG is also a pure CHR/Pop nowadays whereas in the lte 80s it was a Top 40/Rock outlet.

Human,
WHO would pay that GIANT electric bill for that power.
WHO will pay for GAS for the sales reps to travel all that geography??
WHO will pay the FCC for the "major change" you suggest.
Nope. Keep the power the same. Sell close to home.

You might want to get some radio chops before you make a station" your personal i-pod.

And I wish ice cream was free!

I thought there was a minimun age limit for this board.

I want WRHC-LP to better serve New Buffalo, Michigan. Let's see if they can increase their power to 20,000 watts. OK?
