WOULD YOU LISTEN TO REV. JEREMIAH WRIGHT IF HE HAD A NYC RADIO SHOW?

In the radio/TV biz ya never know who gets a show. It's been a slow news week this week (joking). Spitzer, Rev. Wright, weather in Atlanta and now the Bear Sterns story.

"..and that's what's happening.....I'm Reverend Jerimiah Wright...and now more music with Imus In The Morning"

Sung to the tune of "Joy to the World"--

Jeremiah was my pastor
was a good friend of mine
I never heard a single nasty word he said
and I hope you believe that line...

Re-e-e-everand Wright was wrong
Je-e-eremiah's gone now!
he sleeps with the fishes in the deep blue sea
and he didn't speak for me!

If the Rev. Jeremiah had a radio show, IT WOULD NOT BE WORTH LISTENING TOO!!!.

I know we're not really suppose to express our religious beliefs on this board, but this reverend said somethings that are not biblically true.

If Rev. Wright can do nothing but preach racial division, his pews should be empty.

To make this more of a topic for radio, there's a difference between how the White or mainstream talk show hosts react to Rev. Wright's sermons compared to Black talk radio.

Thanks,
Kevin L. Sealy

It might be funny one time. But that would get old real fast!

Only if he replaced Sean Hannity.

What is really frightening is that this kind of RASCISM has an audience...oh & another thing...It's only RACISM if it is White Hate Speech. :'( Blacks advising hatred against WHITES is O.K.

Absolutely--Rev Wright is a talented and caring minister. His sermons are not racist. If you listen to his sermons on YouTube ( including the sermon which contains the so-called offensive comments), you will see that his remarks have been taken out of context. The late Rev. Falwell, the the Rev. Roberson were/are genuine racists, yet Hillary was able to appear on the "700 Club" recently with no outcry. BTW, Rev. Wright spent two nights at the White House during the Clinton administration, and Hillary and Bill were impressed enough to send him a note afterwards thanking him for his "spiritual guidance." Trinity, under Wright's leadership UCC has done more to minister to and help the Chicago community than most churchs---sent thousands of kids to college, drug rehabilitation programs, a huge number of after school programs, etc. The US should be ashamed of the way they have judged and vilified this man. BTW, I am a middle aged white man...

Fortmill, I'm sorry but if you are a middle aged white guy, I find your sentiments here to be foolish. This guy wouldn't give you the time of day unless it benefitted him in some way. He doesn't like you, nor does he like your kind. And, at least he's honest about it. Let's open our eyes here.

These speeches are not taken out of context, they are part of an overall body of work that sees the world through a prism of race. Everything is framed by it. Yes, that probably plays well to others who think that way - but it's hardly mainstream. If you think that Falwell and Robertson are racist and Wright is not, then you're too full of white guilt for your own good. Read a bit more about Rev. Wright, his congregation, and who his church associates with (Nation of Islam, Black Panthers, etc.). Then listen to his speeches again. And see if you feel the same way.

To answer the original question posed: yes, I might actually tune in to ol' Jeremiah now and then if he were on the air. If that seems to be contrary to what I wrote above, it's not. He has every right to his point of view and is a very entertaining speaker. Sure, I totally disagree with much of what I have heard him say - but at least he lays it out clearly and is interesting to listen to. It's always good to get an opposing point of view, no matter how unpleasant it may seem to some. And, maybe he'll actually make a valid point now and then.

I am not so quick to label things on either side as "hate speech" - maybe we should listen to hear what makes these kinds of racist folks (white, black and other) tick.

As an agnostic, there would be no better way to prove the existence of God than for him to somehow replace 'the baby Jesus'. :D

I think the white members of Trinity United might find this information intriguing. Care to pass it along to them?

Not sure why they would care to take part in an Afro-centric church, but as my grandfather said: "there's a seat for every bum." Blacks were welcomed into the LDS church in the old days too, but they couldn't attain the same level of priesthood as whites until a "revelation" in 1978. Not trying to turn this into a religious discussion, but I wanted to point out that people are gullible and many will become involved in organizations who are contrary to their own interests because it makes them feel good or what they think is right.

That Trinity United has white parishioners is certainly not a valid argument against the obvious racist leanings of its leaders. Hey, blacks fought for the Confederacy too.

But, as I said above, I fully support the preacher's right to say what he says and - if it were on the air - I'd probably tune in once in a while. He puts on a good show.

I'm so tired of things being taken out of context when it comes to blacks saying things whites dislike...however when someone like Imus says "nappy headed hoe" refrencing college educated black athletes or Michael Richards commenting on how 40 years ago (whites) used to hang (blacks) from trees...we blacks are supposed to bite our tongues sit and bare it..

pastor Wright grew up in a time when he witnessed his people being treated as animals and now he's witnessing a time when one of his own brothers has the chance to be something so many are routing against.....the PRESIDENT of the United States...everything he said is in all honesty is very true..this country was and still is very racist and has yet to redeem itself from the hundreds of years of blood shed it caused on so many..hence the native americans and the african americans......so personally.. his passion I totally respect and I overstand where it comes from....sorry for those of you who think he's anti white....no..I beg to differ the man is just pro-black....we have to build ourselves up...because this country continues to tear us down.....

these are just my thoughts...proceed

Wow...they're there because they're stupid. Okay.

I'd seriously question your declaration of Wright's statements being 'obviously racist'--and challenge your flimsy counter-example of blacks fighting for the Confederacy (apples and oranges) ...but it'd just be simpler to leave you be. I'm sure I'd wouldn't be a kind audience toward your religious discussions, nor your racial ones either.

I'm not sure folks are ready for such a discussion, GISW. And that's from a sympathetic reader.
