WPEN needs to promote the station now via TV and newspaper ads

Since WPEN is relaunching the sports format, the station and Greater Media really needs to start doing TV, newspaper, billboard and SEPTA bus and trolley ads promoting the station. If you want a lot of people to know about this station, then Greater Media must, must do that and start doing it now.

They never did that for live, local shows - why do it for birdfeed from Bristol? The clear goal here is to cut the budget, not to spend money. I'm sure that they expect lower ratings, but even lower costs (making it a net financial gain). At least that's the plan. If they can toss in a few infomercials during off hours, all the better.

Greater Media couldn't possibly be stupid enough to actually think that this move will actually garner higher ratings.

GREATER MEDIA IS CHEAP CHEAP! IT'S RUN BY PUDDIN HEAD BEAN COUNTERS...NOT SMART PROGRAMMERS!

Getting back on the original topic, WPEN would not promote a format that is not even on the air!

April 1st, when the format is launched, is when the promotion starts. Obviously, planning should have started a couple months ago, but the launch of ads should match the launch of the format, Julius. You don't put the cart before the horse, as the old saying goes.

And I would seriously promote Mike and Mike in the morning. It's a good show. If your morning show doesn't make it, the entire day will not make it. I remember when 1210 was all sports with the horrible sounding Sports Network supplemented by the Sports Babe from ESPN. The Arbitron diaries showed absolutely ZERO listeners in the morning drive. The result? The format died quickly. If they will spend a few bucks to get morning drive attention, they may be able to pull, oh maybe, a .5% in the ratings. But at least they would appear.

The NYC ESPN affiliate adds Warner Wolf in the morning, and he cross promotes the station by doing sports on WABC's Imus in the morning and mentioning that he is on 1050, WEPN. WPEN may find some way to cross promote on their other Philly stations to get some free exposure.
