With all of the layoffs in our business in recent years, it's good to see that at least one on air personality has an entrepreneurial spirit. Today at about 4:20 PM I heard WPRO's Dan York do a commercial for his political consulting company! WHY NOT? He has the skill set, he has the connections and maybe even locals will come flocking in order to get favorable treatment on his broadcast.
With ad revenues off nationwide and first quarter spending always extra low, I am sure the sales department gave him a very favorable rate. Maybe he even buys up the unsold inventory. WHY NOT? He doesn't even have to pay the endorsement charges. "That's why I started a political consulting business on the side," he exclaimed! "Do you need a speech written? Do you need to get prepped before the media? Call me I can help," York promised.
While other talent sits on the sidelines and just "hope" things get better, he goes out and starts a business. BRAVO Mr. York. With CDL trading these days around a dime, it might be well advised.
