WPTX-1690 on University of Twente, Netherlands

Just took a quick check of the SDR in the Netherlands, and there it was...WPTX-1690, Lexington Park, Maryland.
First time I have caught it on there. I usually just scroll through a bunch of European stations, but no WPTX.
I worked at WPTX (back when it was on 920) in the mid '70's, while in the Navy.

Was it at sunrise or sunset?

When I worked at WTMA (1250) Charleston back in the 70's, we ocassionally got reports from Sweden. We were directional out to sea with 1KW at night. WPTX also runs 1KW at night.
I think you've got to have a beverage antenna and a quiet (electrically) locale for it to work.

It was just before sunrise in the Netherlands (11:00 PM MDT here). They are just using a "mini-whip" on top of their building, above a metal roof. Of course, 1690 is the Expanded Band, and has few stations on it in Europe. Sounds noisy this morning though, across the whole spectrum.

@ Kenglish :

This is retro for sure, but back in the late 60's -- I'm guessing 1966 or so -- WPTX 920 conducted a DX test one Monday Morning.

They positively boomed into where we DXers listened, near JFK Airport. Here's a link. Much has changed since 1967, hi.

The fellow on the air at WPTX mentioned that he was from Brooklyn himself. The ID was a neat new one, as easy as it was to nab. 920 was pretty much vacant on Monday mornings, and ripe for DX when neighbouring WPAT 930 stopped with their screeching, splashing violins.
