Finally, LMN does it's first format flip!

EDIT: WQBA seems to be stunting with music at this time.

Here in Texas I’m keeping an eye on LMN’s KLAT and KFLC (Houston and DFW) which both run TUDN. Similar changes about to happen at those two?

The original OG of Spanish news/talk in the market, 1140 WQBA, is back. Now, they'll have two though with the same format... 710 WAQI and 1140 WQBA with both also having Spanish-language sports rights.

Actually 990 WFAB was the first Spanish news and talk station. But repeat violator Richard Eaton lost the license due to double billing.

Around 1962 on school spring break I went to Miami and visited them on Biscayne Blvd just north of the Herald, wonderful people, and the got me started in my love for Caribbean music by sending me home with a box of LPs of Cuban music.

Ah okay! Always learning.

Also, that's pretty cool.

Yeah, two years later I got the equivalent of an internship at Grupo Radio Centro in Mexico city (5 stations in one luxurious marble and bronze building) and then moved to Ecuador.

So Miami will now have SIX Spanish-language Talk stations?

670 WWFE - 50kw day/1kw night
710 WAQI - 50kw
790 WAXY - 5kw (but with 25kw special authorization due to Cuban interference)
990 WMYM - 7.5kw day/5kw night plus 98.7 translator - simulcast of WWFE
1040 WURN - 50kw day/5kw night plus 103.9 translator
1140 WQBA - 50kw day/10kw night
1260 WSUA - 50kw day/20kw night
1550 WRHC - 10kw day/.5kw night - simulcast of WWFE

And let's remember, most English language talk stations make extensive use of syndicated shows. But these stations must originate all of their programming.

Miami is Market #12... and 56% of the population is described by Nielsen as Hispanic. Meanwhile, iHeart's WIOD is the only talk station in English in Miami. Salem shut down its talk station. No other big owner, Audacy, Cumulus, Cox, has a talk station in English here.

There was an attempt at talk on 1210 AM a few years back but it didn't last long. Despite the rich history of English language talk in Miami I don't think there's enough of an audience to support another talk station. I believe it will likely shrink further when the big name hosts on WIOD finally hang it up.
