WRKO "NEWS" REPORTS FRIDAY'S NEWS AS THURSDAY'S NEWS ?

Guest
Tuned into WRKO this morning and when they broke at 11:30 AM for a news update WRKO's crack news department reported that the Quincy Police were called to an address on Grandview Avenue in the Wollaston section of Quincy where a man was hold-up in his house threatening to kill himself and anyone who would stop him.

Wow, it is Deja-vu all over again. That was the exact news story from LAST FRIDAY.

Worst of all the so-called news man didn't even have all the details. He reported that further details were not available.

By the way, the guy committed suicide by police when the police complied with his death wish and shot him dead.

I listened to WRKO at 12 Noon to see if there was a follow-up to this "OLD NEWS" but all they had was a Fox News brief and a local Metro traffic and weather report. Funny, no local news at 12 Noon.

This is really inexcusable and non-professional by a station that wants to pass itself off as a major player in the Boston market.

Also, this shows what happens when Julie "The Executioner" Khan and her "little me" Jason fire the likes of Rod Fritz, WRKO's former news director and replace him with inexperienced individuals who can only read traffic reports. Metro News is a disgrace if they are behind this.
In addition, how could the news reader read a news item that is a week old? I am sure they read the news off a computer screen and not an old wire printer.

More reason why WRKO is a bogus station and an embarassment.

Re: WRKO "NEWS" REPORTS FRIDAY'S NEWS AS THURSDAY'S NEWS

It doesn't surprise me. The station is a hollow shell of its former self right now, and exterminating the news department played a big role in this. It was a disguisting move - this station had news anchors that were of the same calibre that you hear on WBZ. It was (once) a true news/talk station.

I am sure that Kahn and the other programming clowns at Entercom are patting themselves on the back thanks to the most recent ratings, but the station has taken on a low quality sound that will ensure lousy ratings once the cold weather arrives and the Sox head south for the winter.

Right now, the ratings getters on the station consist of the Red Sox, Rush (like him or not, he is successful) and Howie Carr (whom I find very entertaining). The other dayparts are doing disasterously. And, even during the successful dayparts, the station now sounds flat and unprofessional - when compared with WRKO in, say 2004. The news readers are bad and the traffic reporters clearly don't know the area.

All of this will catch up to Julie Kahn and her ilk. And I can't wait until it does because, after it happens, it will be a pleasure to stiff her with a $0.02 tip on her next gig at Dennys! ;D

Better tell the Patriot Ledger, because it is a story on Page 9 in today's (July 5) paper. The fellow in question was named James Hart, 32 Grand View Avenue, Quincy and he was shot by Quincy police on Tuesday (July 3). The 'new' news in this is that the DA is saying that the State Police are calling it 'suicide by cop' while the family is calling it an overreaction by the authorities.

Wow, it is Deja-vu all over again. That was the exact news story from LAST FRIDAY.[/color]

Even better than that. If you knew this on last Friday, 4 days before it actually happened, you probably should have told the police and saved a life. Perhaps you were originally listening to the Psychic News Service on George Noory.

Regards.

Maybe the paper had a new story but radio ran the older version. Better check first TSB.

TSB, WRKO reported the Grandview Avenue event in Quincy as if it were happening NOW. No, mention of the DA was made in the BOGUS WRKO - So-Called News.

Face it !!! WRKO screwed up AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bob,
You have the wrong story. WRKO was reporting an old news item that happened last week in the Wollaston section of Quincy on Grandview Avenue not in Randolph. And the man who was shot by the Quincy Police was a white 65 year old man.

Now, part to my original post. How come WRKO reported an OLD news item as a current DEVELOPING News item.

Not something you would hear happening at WBZ Radio or even WTKK.

Well, maybe there were two people named James Hart who both lived at 32 Grand View Ave in Quincy, and one was shot by police on Friday and the other shot by police on Tuesday. I bet that real estate values on Grand View have taken a hit.

Or maybe Casablanca got two stories confused or didn't want the facts to get in the way of a good WRKO rant.

You make the call.

I did and you and WRKO are both wrong. ;)

The Globe must have gotten it wrong too.

>>By Claire Cummings, Globe Correspondent | July 4, 2007
QUINCY -- Police shot and killed a 65-year-old Quincy man yesterday*after he attacked officers with a knife as they responded to a report of an attempted suicide, authorities said. Police and an emergency unit responded to a 911 call at about 10 a.m. and found James Hart with self-inflicted knife wounds inside a small shed on Grand View Avenue

The paper of record...? Maybe 'RKO was just ripping and reading from el Globo>?
*--not last Friday, but July 3rd acc to the Globe

my bad there, I meant Tue.--I thought the Globe article in question was from today's paper but it
was yesterday's, so thus the shooting was on _Tue_ according to the Globe...Friday was June 29...
no mention in Pat. Ledger--is it possible RKO was ripping and reading from the Globe?

and this is from Wednesday's Herald--they also said Hart was shot and killed "yesterday" as in Tue the 3rd

http://news.bostonherald.com/localRegional/view.bg?articleid=1009577

Is it poss. that Tue "felt like a Fri." because it was the day before a holiday?
>>Quincy cops’ shooting of suicidal man outrages kin
By O’Ryan Johnson/ Boston Herald
Wednesday, July 4, 2007 - Updated: 06:40 PM EST

"The family of a man shot and killed by two Quincy cops yesterday reacted with outrage to the deadly show of force, accusing police of overreacting and insisting the man posed no threat to anyone but himself."

Again, WRKO reported this as an "on going" event. They did not mention that the Quincy Police committed suicide by cop.

Stop making excuses for WRKO !

But was the shooting on Friday or Tue.? I thought you said it was last Fri. I'm not making excuses for
WRKO but you're making it sound like the killing was last Friday and not last Tue. the Globe and Herald
both say Tue. You said Friday.

>>Wow, it is Deja-vu all over again. That was the exact news story from LAST FRIDAY.

Hart was killed on Tue the 3rd. The pic in the Herald of Wed 7/4 says it again: "James Hart was killed by Quincy police yesterday after his wife Joan Hart said she called 911 fearing for her husband’s safety." As for
them saying "further details were not available", well yeah, take them up for that...

Bob,
You have the wrong story. WRKO was reporting an old news item that happened last week in the Wollaston section of Quincy on Grandview Avenue not in Randolph. And the man who was shot by the Quincy Police was a white 65 year old man.

That means that the Globe and the Patriot Ledger both got it wrong, because they are reporting that it happened Tuesday.

For those who have trouble with reading comprehension, here is the Globe story lead from July 4th, s-l-o-w-l-y......

QUINCY -- Police.... shot.. and.. killed.. a ..65-year-old.. Quincy.. man ..yesterday.. after.. he.. attacked.. officers.. with ..a.. knife ..as.. they.. responded.. to.. a ..report.. of.. an.. attempted.. suicide.., authorities..said....Police.. and.. an ..emergency..unit.. responded.. to.. a ..911.. call ..at ..about...10 a.m... and.. found.. James.. Hart.. with.. self-inflicted ..knife.. wounds.. inside.. a.. small ..shed.. on.. Grand.. View.. Avenue

Now, what part of this don't you understand? When a story on July 4th mentions 'yesterday', it means July 3 (the day before July 4, at least according to my calendar, YMMV.)

Now, part to my original post. How come WRKO reported an OLD news item as a current DEVELOPING News item.

No offense, but since you can't even remember the correct incident and the correct week it happened in, I don't think I'm going to consider you the authoritative source remembering exactly what was reported and where on this one.

Not something you would hear happening at WBZ Radio or even WTKK.

I wouldn't have expected that someone on this board couldn't read a newspaper story, but life is full of surprises.

Regards,
TSB

again, for a lot of us (unless we're on vacation or retired), Tue July 3 was a work day that kind of FELT
like a Friday because we knew we'd be off the next day.
I brought up the Randolph stuff because I thought maybe WRKO was quoting a Pat. Ledger story and
maybe C. heard them mention the Randolph story and thought it was the Quincy story.

When one of the stories said:
>>The family of a man shot and killed by two Quincy cops yesterday reacted with outrage to the deadly show of force

I thought maybe they were using newspaper speak; I know in the past you'd read a story and it would
say "The mayor Monday said that (sic)..." so I thought maybe that they were saying the family
reacted to the killing "yesterday" (but maybe the killing was -earlier-?). But no the caption said the
killing had been "yesterday" meaning 7/3

>>That means that the Globe and the Patriot Ledger both got it wrong,

well, the Globe and the Herald. I didn't see the story in the Pat. Ledger even using search.

it's on now:
"shooting was justified"
"on TUESDAY MORNING attempting suicide
lunged at police
3 rounds, 2 hit Hart..."

TUESDAY MORNING.
"Scott Pike. WRKO news."
