I do not know what edition of the Patriot Ledger you have but it is not a 'developing story about a police stand-off happening right now at a Grandview Avenue home in Quincy' in my Thursday, July 5, 2007 edition of the Patriot Ledger but as reported at 11:30 AM today, Thursday on WRKO as being so.
The Patriot Ledger has a follow-up story about the victim and his family noting that the 65 year old man suffered from severe depression for years and that the family believes the 'suicide by cop' was unjustified. It was NOT a 'breaking news story' about a police stand-off that was happening TODAY as WRKO reported.
Whether the incident happened Tuesday or Monday or last Tishubub the incident did not happen TODAY as WRKO was reporting as fact.
By the way, spoke with WBZ Radio News and they were NOT reporting this story in any form... 'breaking news' or follow-up.
WRKO had NO credibility when it comes to its news department [ which it doesn't have - just traffic reporters who read news copy and pass themselves off as newsmen and women.]
The Pottery Barn rule applies: Julie "The Executioner" Khan and her little me minion broke the well established and long respected news department. Now, they own the shattered results. One of the shads of pottery just cut them deeply today and your defense will not stop the bleeding.

Again, the point is WRKO reported OLD news as breaking news. Professional news people do not do that under any circumstances.
But it is a developing news story (the Ledger is running with it today) from Tuesday (with a holiday intervening), not last Friday, which was the real point of your posting, unless someone else typed in the title for you. Most serious posters do try to at least get the days correct. If you can't do that, I guess I'll just pass on what you 'thought' you heard today, and try to imagine what you thought you heard or read Friday.
Making the argument that all your particulars may have been wrong but your conclusion is correct is one that didn't work real well for Dan Rather, and doesn't seem to be scoring any points for you, either.
If Metro News picked up a bad newspaper story in the Globe or Herald and reported it without checking the facts as seem to be the case here it is even more troubling.
Ummm...the Herald, Globe, Ledger, WBZ, WBZ TV, WCVB, WHDH, State Police, QPD, the DA's office, Hart's wife, family and neighbors and just about everyone else got conned into thinking the shooting was Tuesday rather than Friday? Now, that would be troubling if it had really happened.
Instead, it appears that 'WRKO Derangement Syndrome' has claimed another victim (although on the plus side it did get you noticed by Maloney. Bounce your new rationale off him, he'll believe just about anything.)
WRKO's management is too stupid to understand that a mistake like this blows its entire credibility in this city.
Just how, exactly, does you not knowing the difference between Friday and Tuesday reflect badly on WRKO? Are they supposed to e-mail you every morning with day and date information?
When you have trouble keeping the days of the week, and the weeks themselves, straight, you may want to pause before calling someone else 'stupid.'
Goodbye on this one.

TSB
