WRKT Moving out of the Southern Tier market

Just read on http://fybush.com/nerw.html that Erie Rock station 100.9 WRKT Rocket 101 is moving its tower to erie! This will mean that listeners like myself in the Chautauqua Lake region will be cut off from the best rock station on our dial!! Rocket 101 has a huge following in the southern tier and has since 1989 when it hit the airwaves! But I guess this just goes to show you coverage area no longer matters to radio suits, its all about your local target, even though I have never had a problem picking the station up anywhere in the Erie area...

Rocket 101

If i remember right, their tower was previously located in Harborcreek....Always had one of the stronger signals in the Erie Market (covering from Fredonia to nearly the eastern fringe communities of Cleveland like Madison and Painesville) Either way it's a big loss for the southwestern corner of New York. Do 103.3 and 107.7 Alternative Buffalo cover that far south?? we have problems getting clear reception from them up near Lake Ontario...

As you said, Majic, the suits don't look beyond the MSA. If they can't pull money out of an area, they don't care about serving it. Does anybody know why they're moving? So many stations have played real estate games with towers in the last 20 years that some may be running up against the end of sweetheart leases from the buyers, and might find that the cost of staying in their current location has become prohibitive. Tower owners can get a lot more cash, with a lot less RF aggravation, from adding cell antennas to replace FM antennas.
