WSB-TV cancels 4th of July Parade after 47 years

http://www.accessatlanta.com/blogs/...hbuzz/entries/2008/02/07/wsb_cancels_jul.html

After 47 years, WSB-TV is pulling the plug on the station sponsored tradition. Low ratings and costs of doing it in HD are cited.

WSB-TV started the tradition in 1960 as a thank you to Atlanta. Now, they are turning their backs. All WSB will do is air regular ABC programming that day.

The company that produces the parade, Argone Parades, has their office inside the WSB-TV studios.

I hope there is a big protest.

WXIA might dump it on WATL. Argone could get Crawford Communications or Turner Broadcasting to produce it and sell it to the highest bidder.

I seem to remember them putting it up on the bird one year... because I remember seeing it on some cable channel (maybe WGN) with the word "to" in the "Salute 2 America" logo (rather than the number "2" like all of WSB's other stuff). So it's been syndiacted before.
