Listening to WSBB in New Smyrna Beach this morning. Starting Nov. 1st they will also be on 1490 in Deland to cover West Volusia.

That is a neat station. Met the owner once - if I remember right his name is Skip - nice guy. Did 1490 ever get a real antenna after the one fell down during the football game parking? They were operating off of something temporary because the city wouldn't let them reconstruct the antenna.

In March of 2010, J &V Communications replaced the fallen tower with an 85 foot Valcom Antenna. New zoning laws would not allow replacing a tower with same height that had been on the site.

An 85 foot AM radio antenna?! Yikes! Even on a graveyard frequency like 1490, that seems quite signal limiting! ???

Great station. I listen to WSBB when I'm in the area and on my smartphone back home.
While they have good coverage up and down the coast in central FL, the poor ground conductivity inland makes it hard for them to reach Deland. Since a lot of folks work or do business in Deland from the coast, it makes sense to improve their coverage there...

HMMM never tried 1490 in Altamonte. Sounds interesting.
