WSMB 1350 AM in New Orleans is now listed on AAR's Web site

This thead on the Louisiana board says "....might want to pay attention to 1350 in the next 3 or 4 weeks".

WSMB has a section on the WWL Web site, and it does not yet indicate Air America Radio is on the station.

Bye, bye Bill O'Reilly and Dr. Laura.

That makes three Entercom affiliates for Air America (New Orleans, Memphis, Rochester, NY).

I'm confused. I thought Air America Radio/Progressive Radio is a Loser. Why are these companies flipping their stations to Progressive Talk format?
note: sarcasm

I'm sure the answer is the DNC and George Soros is funding them so they can help elect Hillary in 2008. ;)

Nobody Wants to Hear Liberal Talk X 2!

Formats with hamster dance music do better! Nobody wants to hear liberal talk! There can never be two liberal formats like in Los Angeles! That's twice as much liberal talk nobody wants to hear. :)

The talking points go down in flames.

We're getting to the point where there are enough liberal shows to start seeing primary AAR affiliates going beyond dumping AAR stuff for Schultz. Stephanie Miller is seeing some growth as well. Her show is more comedy and less rant.

As this trend continues, I think we're going to see some shakeout of the lower quality shows. Unfiltered, although enjoyable to me, was apparently not enjoyable enough and Springer appeared instead. His show is tolerant of conservative callers who get to make points without being dumped a-la Randi or Mike Malloy. I see Morning Sedition and Majority Report to be the next two that may be on the way out. The former is in morning drive, and I suspect many local affiliates will do their own local thing more and more. The latter is running out of gas fast. I am sensing Garafalo is losing interest and Seder is burning out. As long as Malloy does overnights, he stays. Franken and Randi (despite her show being butchered because of Schultz or retiming) are safe, but Franken will eventually drop if he runs for Congress. I see Randi being the best shot they have to replace him, unless they can recruit someone new.

I made a phone call to WSMB this afternoon. I was told they were supposed to flip to Air America Radio today but they need a part for their satellite receiver. So, rather than make the flip in the middle of this week, they will do it next Monday, July 25th.

AAR has been using Laura Flanders' weekend time slot to try out other talent during her vacation.

Cary Harrison (Harrison On The Edge) was fairly promising last weekend, the Young Turks somewhat less so the previous weekend, though not too bad.

I missed Bill Crowley filling in last Saturday. How did he do in the long format?
______________

Progressive Radio is a loser. 1350 in New Orleans has been a wasteland for years. Liberals (and yes I am one) don't really get the talk format. I'd rather be hangin at the lake listening to music (or Savage for a laugh) then Randi Rhodes try and tell me why so and so shouldn't be on the supreme court. Why do the right wingers succeed then? Because their base has a different mind-set and lifestyle (i.e BORING?)

Then why is progressive radio a big success in Portland, Oregon and Madison, Wisconsin? The answer is that it's on a good AM signal in Portland, on FM in Madison, and both cities are full of liberals, enough of whom DO "get" the talk format.

Talking point....

Your comments fly in the face of ratings, which are on the increase. Our local Air America station in Rochester, with zero publicity, has been on a slow ratings climb after dumping their second tier conservative format (the leftovers WHAM didn't want). That's the story in a lot of markets.

A lot of wasteland AM stations with oldies or sports talk giving AAR a shot are very happy with the results they are getting.

Their audience skews older and that is who listens to talk radio by default. Put on a good talk show and the listeners will come. Michael Savage is car wreck radio, but few can listen to that day after day. If you want to laugh with the radio and not at it, download some of Stephanie Miller's show and give that a shot. It has humor, a-la Randi Rhodes, but far faster-paced and fewer lectures.
