WSMR/Life 89.1 Sarasota goes dark Wednesday 8/4

Seriously, the reception of 89.1 in Tampa seems worse than WJBQ or WTMP-FM. Maybe I am missing something, but how does this serve the greater metro area when 89.1 is a rimshot at best for Tampa listeners.
It's hard to say how good or bad 89.1's rimshoot signal will be. If you're monitoring the signal today (or yesterday after 5:12 PM , when the Sarasota station went dark)..... then you're most likely receiving WUFT 89.1 out of Gainesville.

If you compared the signal prior to late June when WSMR lowered it's power as well as height then you probably know what the signal will actually be like...... although it will be slightly better since the tower will be about 5 or 6 miles n.w. of the previous tower site.

"Tampa" covers a large area, especially when you consider what some people (including the post office) consider Tampa, but are outside the city limits; south Tampa including the Interbay area may not have a problem with the 89.1 signal, if listening on a good radio. (I know most radios sold now are poor in the sensitivity department) I think anyone north of I-275 or downtown and points east will definately have a problem receiving 89.1; there may have to be several translators or repeaters to fill in the gaps.

The WUSF website has a FAQ section as well as coverage maps, showing the projected coverage of both 89.7 and 89.1.

Also the Sarasota Herald-Tribune finally had an article this morning about the change:

In reading the article, This is giving USF a unique oportunity to duplicate what WNYC-FM did last year.

The New York Times sold classical WQXR to WNYC on October 8,2009. Their intention was to move to an all-news on 93.9 and full-time classical to the (then) newly aquired and lower powered 105.9.

In this case, 89.7 will be all-news with a full power signal. 89.3 will be full-time classical but with a severely lessened signal for the ADI.

Jeff in Sa-ra-so-ta!

I admit 2 stations are a good idea, but 89.1 is probably unlistenable on the main campus. As much as I love Marvelous, I listen to Mason because WJQB is just to much of a pain to listen to

I don't see any links to a contour map on the WUSF website

Since MAX 98.3 plays anything or whatever he wants----------maybe Max likes classical? I'd like to know how Mensa meetings are going to cope with this. this is terrible.
