WSRS in Worcester follows B101 - two daytime airshifts

Looks like only the morning show and Tom Holt. Too bad Delilah didn't lose her nighttime slot. :(

So Bruce Palmer gets screwed by CC again... wow. Well they have one more live airshift than B101, since wasn't it determined that only the morning show is live at this point?

according to cruisin bruse web site he was told on new yrs. eve that his posisition has been eliminated do to the budget cuts.. but he is already exploring new avenues in local radio so stay tuned

It's not just Clear Channel.Citadel in New London has been cutting.Who I'm not sure.
Pretty soon radio will be just music or syndicated programming.Just like listening to Music Choice or XM or Sirious.
I had a listener last weekend when I was working for WBLQ call me and tell me she got an IPOD for Christmas and put a whole bunch of songs into it that Chris Dipaola's station plays on Saturdays with his Time Machine. That was comforting for me to hear.(NOT)
The Ipod is killing music radio.

Technology is killing music radio. Alternative programming will be ok. News Radio and Talk Radio will probably be allright for the long term.

And the fat lady just keeps on singing which is nothing against Bruce. People are going to have to realize if they survived cuts this year beware of 10/08-12/08. If you're making decent money you're at least part of that group that has 10 to 12 months at your current station.

I hate IPODs/MP 3 players and you'll never catch me buying one. And the only reason I'm buying a portable CD player and adapter to play it through the cassette player in my car is just for looks. I'm doing it so my friends don't tease me about not having a CD player in my car.

I like radio. I can not just listen to music continously. I like to know what's going on - when my favorite artist is coming to town, when they're gonna release their new album, and of course the interaction between the DJs and the callers are just priceless especially all the callers to HOT 93.7 who are calling in who have boyfriends and/or husbands that are locked up in prison. Those right there are the funniest calls.

Even my best friend who like me is 25 and he has a CD player in a car, he alternates between the CD player and HOT 93.7 (of course now all he can listen to is HOT 93.7 since someone broke into his car and broke the CD player and stole the GPS out of his glove box).

Radio and Records reports today that WSRS's fillin jock Donna Mac has been promoted to fulltime and will take the 10am to 4pm slot.

So while the WSRS website has not been updated, I presume the schedule will run:

5am-10am Jackie and Greg
10am-4pm Donna Mac
4pm-7pm Tom Holt
7pm-midnight Delilah
midnight-5am Joel Palmer

Oh of course she has to be voicetracked. She probably handles it from Oxford Street. She is not longer listed on the B101 website as a weekender but still does that women-oriented show listed on the Coast website.Hopefully when and if Bruce Palmer finds another radio job he will have the sense not to take one at a Clear Channel station since they let him go every 3 years.I think Clear Channel sees the signs as to the future of post morning drive radio and its unimportance and instead of doing something about it and making it more compelling they are just giving in and doing it as cheaply as possible.

well i guess cheap channel gave wsrs a little more of a budget to work with then b101 sence they put donna mac in bruce palmer slot rather than have 6 hr on air shifts . even though donna is tracked ( in sure) she prolly does it from home rather then driving to oxford street

Why even bother to voicetrack overnights? Is that something they've been doing? Joel is busy enough without being burdoned with that duty - and it makes absolutely no difference. The station might actually sound "cleaner" running jockless from 12 -5a. Maybe have him record weather to run once an hour, but that's it. my 2$. (My keyboard doesn't have a cents symbol! I should get a CC keyboard. Bet they still have them.)

Now that you mention it, my keyboard doesn't have a cent symbol either. :D

I should probably amend that presumed schedule I posted earlier in the thread. The WSRS website has Donna on from noon to 4 (which was also Bruce Palmer's shift). I forgot that Greg Byrne tends to stick around from 10 to noon once the Morning Show officially ends at 10.

So, presumably:

5am-10am Jackie and Greg
10am-noon Greg
noon-4pm Donna Mac
4pm-7pm Tom Holt
7pm-midnight The Godawful Delilah...oops...I mean...Delilah ::)
midnight-5am Joel Palmer

Why even bother to voicetrack anything? Why even have jocks? Clear Channel and Citadel have taken the souls away from the jocks to the point where if they all disappeared one day, nobody would notice or care. And they would increase their bottom line a lot more than the ocassional round of layoffs. Let's man every single station out there with a guy who programs the computer and makes sure the station doesn't go off the air. Would listenership be any different?

Does it even matter anymore? Does anyone even care?

Other than morning drive being affected, music radio really wouldn't see any change in listenership, which is down anyway and will continue to decrease with the continuing increase in sat subscribers and more and more ipods being utilized.....

So who does everyone think caused all this? Yes I know people will say it's technology. Has lackluster radio after morning drive desensitized listeners to the point where there's nothing on the radio but the next song with some jock who is the radio equvalent of a video aquarium? Did we all just grow up with more of an interest in the business, some of us getting in, and missing the point that not everyone shares our passion? If radio has stayed exciting would listening be up? Are today's potential audiences just more prone to get what they want for themselves when it comes to entertainment? Mark my words, going back to a post of a couple of weeks ago, if some station would start aiming at the demographics the agencies don't want by concentrating on the 60s and 70s with exciting jocks and hire a sales staff that knows how to sell, this type of station could thrive in Providence.
