WSRX/Naples being sold to WayMedia and WAYJ/Ft Meyers to Classical S. Fl.

From HisAir.Net:

"WAY Media, Inc. announced today it will purchase WSRX/Naples (89.5FM) from Family Christian Broadcast Network. In turn nonprofit listener-supported public radio organization Classical South Florida will acquire WAYJ /Fort Myers (88.7FM) from WAY Media. WAY-FM programming will move to WSRX."

So is Classical South Florida the same as FGCU's 90.1?

I still miss Power 89.5 / 91.5 The Spark from late-80's to early-90's.

^ No. WGCU 90.1 is NPR - a lotta talk, and a little jazz (along with its relay 91.7 in Marco). Classical South FL is 89.7 Miami. 90.7 West Palm Beach & possibly 89.1 Sarasota are parallel, at least part of the time; somebody correct me if I am wrong here.

I still have an ID of WBPT 89.5 (the Spark) on a DX tape from 1992. WBPT may have been brand new then. (WSRX moved the calls there to 89.5 later.)

Classical S.F. is rising like a monster out of the pits, from its 2007 birth....

Yes, cd. It was both WSRX-FM 91.5 The Spark Fort Myers & WBPT-FM Power 89.5 Naples.
I also have a few airchecks from this station on cassette.

Around 1992 was when "Spark" can only be heard on 89.5 when they called themselves "Power 89.5 The Spark" without the 91.5...
And a few months later, disappeared & went Christian.

This is THE radio station I'm trying to sound like today on-air, if you're wondering where I get my inspiration from.
Because this is when I wanted to become a DJ in my childhood, 1988-92, when I was 8-12 years old.

First of all...
xmusicmatt, learn how to spell Ft. Myers.

Secondly, WGCU has Classical South Florida on its HD-2 channel. So much for that. To me, this shows the lack of success of HD radio, especially here. One has to wonder what WGCU will do with their HD sibchannel.

Spark had its moments, but they regularly got into trouble for not knowing the difference between an underwriting announcement and a commercial.

WBPT was on 89.5 before WSRX. The call letter swap happened in the early part of 1992. The WBPT call sign was originally on a Connecticut TV station.

WSMR programs Classical 24 from 9PM - 6 AM, so for nine years a day, they do have the same programming at the same time as Classical South Florida.

During the morning drive, Russel Gant does the morning classics, along with local traffic and weather, later in the day, it's Bethany Cagle and Coleen Cook. The station receives no federal or state funds, so it's amazing that they can be as live and local as they have been so far. No news, just the traffic and weather snippets during morning and afternoon drive and a locally produced public affairs program once a week.

They do have a performance studio in Sarasota and several times they have broadcast live performances from there.

The bar keeps being moved by beaurocrats in DC. I don't know how non-comm stations can keep from getting in trouble. But it would explain why WTSP keeps getting away with an improper ID every hour.

In defense to xmusicmatt, it is probably Apple's autocorrect. The libs don't care where Ft. Myers is so why would they care if it is spelled wrong?

Jeff in Sa-ra-so-ta!

"Commercials" on non-com stations can not have a call to action, e.g. "Call 123-4567 right now!". They can give the number, but not tell you to call it. In other words, they can't tell you to do something, but they can tell you what the something is.

... as opposed to France, where advertisers can't even mention their Twitter and Facebook pages, let alone invite you to check them out...

Fact: The autocorrect on Deion Sanders' smartphone never misspells "Fort Myers". ;)

Does he still live in Gateway?
I was also told he used to go to the same middle shkool I went to: Lehigh Middle.

Deion calls L.A. his home these days... but I'm sure he hasn't forgotten about his hometown.

I was wondering how he fit in...

That's OK. Your new header is better anyway!!

BTW...WAYJ and WSMR 60dbu cross at Punta Gorda, so between the two, all of SWFL will be covered.
Now you guys can start thinking about what the new call letters might be ???

I see WAY-FM moving the call letters of WAYJ to 89.5. But the bigger question is: What will become of the call letters WSRX? Will Classical South Florida simply request a swap to avoid the hassle of applying for new call letters?

Way will be keeping the WAYJ calls.

Thank you for confirming my prediction; however, what becomes of the call letters WSRX?
