WTWZ (1180AM in Clinton) plans for a move to 102.5

This afternoon about 1:00, the owner of WTWZ-AM to announce upcoming move of the station to 102.5. He was reluctantly asking his listeners for contributions because the move was going to be "very expensive." I think that he may have said that the move will bring about a 24-hour format.

I did not hear him say if the AM frequency would be remaining at 1120 or if the station would be moving completely to the FM frequency.

Looks like the AM would have to stay on. Recnet lists WTWZ as the parent station for translator W294AT. 250 Watts at 272 meters from one of the towers out by WAPT. They filed a stay on 8/10/16 to build that station out there looks like. 60dbu looks like it would cover all of Jackson, Clinton, Pearl, and Ridgeland with the fringe signal possibly making it to Vicksburg if the wind blows just right... Hopefully he'll get enough donations to build it out.

Mr. Wood is a great guy. We helped him with the W294AT move. W294AT is paired WTWZ as part of the recent 250 mile AM window. I'm sure he is trying to get folks to transition to the FM frequency. Many of these combos treat the AM as secondary because they know the FM will get the most listenership. In some cases I see the AM frequency on re branded logos listed small with the FM standing out.

Is that the station that plays gospel in the morning and bluegrass in the afternoon? I used to listen to that every time I'd amble down to Jackson.

The station is filled with sermons and religious talk shows in the morning. In the afternoon, "bluegrass gospel" is played.

Just food for thought. The wind doesn't blow radio signals in.
