WTXF Launches 6 P.M. News Monday-Friday; expands Good Day to 10 AM

No. Fox ends its programming at 10 PM, and all the Fox O&O's do The 10 O'Clock News. WTXF would have to fill the gap at 10, and would get crushed by the Big 3 at 11. At 10 they have a niche, at 11 they'd be an also-ran.

I think the idea might have been an additional 11 pm show, essentially expanding the 10 pm show. That said, also-ran would probably be an optimistic outcome, though perhaps with how dismal NBC has been lately, 29 could be the third-place also ran instead of the fourth-place one.

Some Fox affiliates have experimented with that kind of expansion (be it 11 in the East/West or 10 in Central), but the results have been mixed. It's not terribly additive to the cost structure if you use your existing talent, as 29 has done when they've tinkered with the political shows last fall in that slot. They'll also be a distant also-ran at 6, so would it be all that different if they gave the late shift an extra 30 minutes?
