WW1 and NBC renew NBC News Radio

For all you networkphiles (I know you're out there), WW1 and NBC have renewed their agreement for NBC News Radio, including "Meet The Press."

Would love to know how long the term is, since NBC can go it alone at the end of 2007, assuming the original sale/license agreement from 1987 is still in effect. WW1 is still using "NBC Radio" on "First Light" independent of NBC News Radio.

Why? Does anyone use NBC News on the radio?

NBC produces (and Westwood One distributes) one-minuite hourly radio headline newscasts, some of which are anchored by "name" NBC News correspondents (Brian Williams, Lester Holt, Campbell Brown, John Seigenthaler, etc.), others anchored by MSNBC anchors (i.e. Chris Jansing).

Here in Boston, they can be heard on WTKK-96.9, which also carries the audio portion of "Meet The Press", but not live; WTKK broadcasts it Sundays at 12 Noon ET. "Meet The Press"'s live telecast is seen Sundays between 9 and 10 A.M. ET; I wonder if any NBC News Radio affiliates simulcast the program live.

The fact that they're not only heard from 6a-10pm on weekdays and not at all on weekends has to hinder their success. That and the 100% ratio of content:inventory. It basically serves as a billboard for flailing MSNBC, and perhaps as a way to allow WW1 to also clear CNN on NBCRN affiliates more focused on news. As if the sixteen stations in every market carrying CNN wasn't enough.

I don't believe it's offered live, unless someone wanted to put a microphone up to a TV.

Here in NYC, WOR takes 4 updates every weekday and incorporates them
in its local newscast. WINS occasionally uses a NBC/MSNBC actuality.
THey are fed live at either :45 or :50 and then repeated on the hour
(or a live update, if needed.) If a NBC/MSNBC correspondent can't anchor,
a WW1 staffer (who produces and/or writes the update from CBS News HQ
in DC) will anchor the report. WW1's Dirk Van comes to mind.
I do think they should offer weekend service on NBC, but WW1 may get flack from CNN over that.

"Meet The Press" is also heard here in Atlanta on NewsTalk 750 WSB-AM Sunday
evenings (locally) at 9:00 p.m. WSB-AM was once an affilliate of the NBC Radio Network back in its heyday. No, I think all radio stations tape delay this show as well as "Face The Nation" (CBS Radio) and "This Week" (ABC Radio).
