WWLG BECOMES WVIE-AM “THE VOICE” V1370

NEW FORMAT & CALL LETTERS LAUNCHED; Press ReleaseWWLG BECOMES WVIE-AM “THE VOICE” V1370 V1370’s new format from the feminine point of view joins brother station WCBM TalkRadio 680AM to bring the most powerful voices in talk radio to Baltimore-area listenersBaltimore, Maryland. A new format and call letter change was announced today by Bob Pettit, General Manager, changing WWLG to the new WVIE-AM V1370 “The Voice”. The announcement was made on June 1, 2006 during a live, local broadcast of brother-station WCBM’s “The Tom Marr Show” at an invitation-only brunch for sponsors and local dignitaries at the Hilton Pikesville. Effective immediately, The Voice V1370 will be the local home to many of the most powerful female voices in talk radio, including Dr. Laura Schlessinger, Laura Ingraham, Tammy Bruce and Dr. Joy Browne. Dr. Laura and Laura Ingraham were interviewed by Tom Marr during the announcement brunch. There are plans in the works for more locally-originated radio programs to air on The Voice V 1370, which will be announced in the future.“The time is right for a Baltimore talk radio station with ‘a different point of view’ – the feminine perspective,” comments Bob Pettit, General Manager, WCBM-AM and the new WVIE-AM. “We are already cross-promoting the ‘brother & sister’ stations of Talk Radio AM 680 and The Voice V 1370, knowing that the two talk radio stations will be complementary and share many listeners. Giving women and men in the Baltimore/ Washington area a new voice is the ultimate goal for the two stations.”Two of the only locally owned major market radio stations in the state, WVIE V1370 The Voice and brother station, WCBM TalkRadio AM680, both a powerful 50,000 watts, are owned by M-10 Broadcasting, a division of Mangione Family Enterprises Employing over 3500 people, their portfolio includes real estate development, nursing homes and the hospitality industry. WVIE-AM & WCBM-AM are located at 1726 Reisterstown Road, Suite 117, Pikesville, MD 21208. But with Laura and Laura it's the "same" point of view that's on WCBM. ::)Which means it's not the same point of view as most women in this country, if the TV morning news shows, "The View", "Oprah", and my ex-wife are any indication. Ingraham is for middle-aged conservative men. Dr. Laura's whole schtick was lambasting the "feminine" take of advice shows a la Drs. Toni Grant and Joy Browne. They are women who do talk for men. Putting them on a station targeted for women is like putting on a show featuring three Hooters waitresses talking dirty (which was actually done on Tampa radio, on not just one but several stations over a decade). If they program it like they do WCBM, the local host will be an aging blond who sounds as ifshe's channeling Les Kinsolving...
