...as for what 9 N.J., 13 L.A. and 50 Chi will be running, may I suggest it wouldn't be past Rupert to construct a new network using material from the NewsCorp-controlled outfits in the U.K. (Sky) and Australia (isn't it 7 Network there?) and use the New York, Los Angeles and Chicago stations as keys?...<P ID="signature">______________

KUTP/45 Phoenix and WFTC/29 Minneapolis, along with other ex-Chris Craft stations I can't think of right now.

I'd be more willing to bet that you'll see more reruns of Fox O&O daytime programming (read: Judges, judges, and more judges) and infomercials in prime time.

KUTP has carried Phoenix Suns road games for years and that'll continue, but otherwise, they're a total waste of a channel. I'll guess the other ex-Chris Craft stations now owned by Fox are similar (hopefully I'm wrong).

I have another question, though it may be answered elsewhere: What will happen to Boston's channel 38, currently known as UPN38? Will it join the new network, become an independent again, or something else I can't think of right now?

CW will be on Tribune-owned WLVI-TV (WB) channel 56 of Cambridge/Boston.

WDCA 20 Washington and KTXH 20 Houston will definitely lose UPN in the wake of the CW merger. KUTP 45 Phoenix, WFTC 29 Minneapolis and WUTB 24 Baltimore are the other Fox-owned UPNs. In Phoenix, Belo's KASW has the WB affiliation, while Sinclair's KMWB 23 and WNUV 54 have WB in Minneapolis and Baltimore, respectively. It'll be interesting to watch this play out, especially in Baltimore where Sinclair's other station is Fox affiliate WBFF 45. The dynamics are fascinating - would Fox try to pull its main affiliation in-house in Baltimore to avoid the prospect of going independent, at the risk of offending one of the biggest owners of Fox affiliates around the country?

One wonders, given the large and growing Hispanic populations in many of the markets where Fox is losing (or may be losing) affiliations, whether there's any thought being given to some sort of "Fox en Espanol"? It could instantly be a big-signal, big-name threat to Univision and Telemundo if done right, and you could do worse than to launch a new Spanish network with total-market-coverage O&Os in New York, Chicago, LA, Phoenix, Houston and Washington. (Minneapolis, not so much...)<P ID="signature">______________

So are all of these stations going to use the UPN and WB branding up until September, or will some stations such as WPIX drop the 'WB' from 'WB-11' sooner?

How about a market where neither affiliate is an O&O? For example, Greensboro's got WB on 20 (owned by Pappas) and UPN on 48 (owned by Sinclair with the beautifuly soon-to-be-outdated calls WUPN). Who gets the CW, and which turns to religi...."independent?"

Actually, no. What they do have in Aussie, in terms of television assets, are Foxtel (a cable/satellite provider), Fox8 (a cable/satellite channel carried on Foxtel and other pay-TV carriers; shows programs from Fox US, as well as WB and UPN, ahem, CW), and 33% of Sky News Australia (through BSkyB).

(I'm thinking the 7 Network wouldn't still be using the NBC Nightly News theme if they were owned by NewsCorp...)<P ID="signature">______________

Makes too much sense....

On the other hand, Roger Ailes is planning a more indepth integration of the Fox O&O's and Fox News Channel.

They might be salivating at the idea of running prime time local newscasts.

In Los Angeles, they would be facing an uphill battle with KCOP against the long-established "Prime 9 News" on CBS-owned KCAL.

KCOP already had to concede the 10:00 news wars against KCAL, Tribune's KTLA, and their own KTTV and now run a "hipper young" newscast at 11:00 instead.<P ID="signature">______________

I watched part of the WB11 News at Ten last night (WPIX) and they seemed really excited about being a CW affiliate. I was trying to flip back and see what WWOR had to say about it but didn't happen to catch the story on their newscast.

Somewhat recently, the "Prime" has made a reappearance over at KTLA. There newscast is now called KTLA Prime News.
