WXKS-FM on 97.1 in Sanford Maine

Driving through Sanford Maine tonight at about 9pm and heard Kiss 108 on 97.1.Heard the legal ID and it was WXKS-FM Medford Boston,so it wasn't from 95.3 in York Center.97.1 is a translator of WMDR which I think is "God's Country".Would someone in Sanford have access to put another station on 97.1? I couldn't get 107.9 in Sanford tonight.

Maybe WMDR is selling off some of its translators. They do have a funky CP to move their transmitter just NW of Lewiston/Auburn, so that could explain some things. I also heard they're shutting down their 107.9 translator in Portland because of WFMX in Skowhegan.

I remember last year around this time in the summer I could hear Kiss 108 on 97.1. But last year I remember hearing WSKX-FM for the calls. So like chrisradioanimal said it could be tropo because 95.3 comes in well enough in sanford to not need a translator. By the way Andy Taylor you can't receive 107.9 in sanford anyways only through tropo.

Edit: I just checked 97.1 and I heard God's Country 889.

They're probably receiving WMDR via the 107.9 translator on Blackstrap Hill in Falmouth, so with the good tropo conditions, WXKS overpowered that translator. The same thing used to happen back when 96.7 WCME relayed 107.9 WHQO via an over the air receiver.
