WXLO 99X Jo JO Kincaid late 1975 (aircheck)

I recorded this in December '75 during their countdown of 1972.

It's slightly grainy at times due to old RCA rtr tape and my using a low bias level to preserve highs at 3,75 ips.

Also interesting as how much the station had de-compressed from a year earlier, they were now using a rather obvious noise gate and you can hear hiss punch through at the beginning of Nillsson's "Without You" also still using the original General Electric stereo board they had installed in 1966.

Thanks for the great aircheck. However, I must tell you that the air personality is neither Jo Jo Kincaid nor JoJo Morales. The JoJo of this exhibit is an African-American dude who worked at R&B KDIA Oakland after leaving New York.

Lee Michaels was an amazing jock and went on to become an extremely successful urban and rhythmic programmer at WBMX CHICAGO, KMEL SAN FRANCISCO, WBLS NEW YORK, among others and now is the owner of CompuOne.net, an isp, in the Chicago area.

I can tell you absolute CERTAINTY that's not me! LOL!

In 1975 I was 14 years old. In '77 I was JoJo Kincaid's phone-op at Y-100, Miami.

In 1980 I did my first airshift at 96X, Miami.

JoJo Kincaid was never a fulltime employee of 99X. He may have done a shift there as a goof on a weekend. I'll call him and ask. I did listen to a couple breaks, and it could be him, but I'll have to listen at home on a better system.

How about scoping that thing before you post it? Geez!

JoJo Kincaid NEVER did a shift on 99x, not even for a goof. In fact I don't believe he's ever done anything on an RKO radio station.

99X's Jojo was, indeed, George Halstead, aka Lee Michaels, who went on to be a major R&B programmer at places like WGCI Chicago, KKSS St. Louis and KDIA Oakland among others. He also consulted the R&B K-94 in his home town of Norfolk, VA. Their former owner owes him almost as much money as he owes me for consulting the same station (it flipped from urban to Rock AC in 1991). Yes, consulting can be an unpaid job in many cases.
