WXNT drops the ball on overnight coverage of severe weather watch alerts

F

flashback

i was listening to WXNT for hours durring a thunderstorm.listening to the phil hendre show.not thinking about the possibility of severe storm warnings.not one word of warning about alerts were broadcast on WXNT.i switched on WIBC and find out thunderstorm watches and warnings and tornado watches have been going on for hours and they have been interupting their broadcasts on all of the stations the company WIBC is owned by for coverage.not one word about them on WXNT at all.and both are supposted to be news/talk.

sounds like WXNT needs to get better on the news part of news /talk.

Whaddya want? WXNT has a cume audience of only 39,000. Surprised anyone was listening in on a Sunday night. The WIBC cume audience is 220,000 and their ownership cluster, Emmis, has a total cume of over 1,000,000. They have a BIG reason to keep the community informed.

its not a matter of constant coverage.is it too much to expect the occasional mention if the alert, watch or warnings.just the recordings from the weather brueau?

not too much to expect for a station claiming to be NEWS /TALK.

At the very minimum, they should have their EAS equipment set up to interrupt programming with weather watches/warnings. Maybe they are afraid that if people know there's a weather issue, they (all 75 of them on Sunday Night) will switch to WIBC.

Entercom seems to care very little about WXNT, but yes, having a working EAS system is neccesary. Maybe it did fire but the listener missed it? Or maybe it isn't hooked up.

i can`t speak for the other 74 listeners but i would have stayed on WXNT. :)

The actual contributors are about the only people who truly care about the station. They have a really dedicated, talented staff, but they have dwindled down to so few that it's rare that they have someone there during business hours on a weekday let alone that late on a weekend. It's always sad when you can see the dedication of the workers and the obvious lack thereof from the higher-ups at the station.

Aren't there only three people that work for WXNT, specifically? Abdul, his board op and a salesperson. They share others with the other stations.

Regardless of their cume, they should provide coverage as expected of a news/talk station. Just sayin...

I took your suggestion and Googled Big Shot at Entercom Radio. Is this guy for real?! Small ego drive here, eh? ;)

ROFLMAO!

Tom Hervey is one of the nicest and most genuine people I know. He is also very funny, and that is pure Tom poking fun at himself. He is one of the only Sales People that really care about WXNT and in Entercom world that make you a small fry.
