WXNT drops the ball on overnight coverage of severe weather watch alerts

Having had the pleasure of working with Tom Hervey for the past 3 and a half years, i wish to echo the comments made about his sense of humor and dedication to WXNT. Has always been a truly class act, and one of the best people I have met or worked with in the business.

Bob Horner
WXNT morning news anchor.

Dude, I LOVED watching you with the Braves in the 80s.

Kinda fell apart with the Cardinals after that season in Japan.

**Sorry, I couldn't resist -- I'm sure you NEVER get that**

Dang, you beat me too it. I was gonna ask Bob how it was playing on a team with Dale Murphy. ;-)

This might a bit off topic as this is a radio board, but I was watching ch8's LWS on 8.2 on Wednesday . They had to break away from weather for a children's show. During the show, a crawler came across the bottom of the screen. It was a NWS slood watch. The only problem is that is was from last week end.
Is there no one awake in the studios anymore? Have we got to the point that people are even perceived as being needed anymore? Computers can do a lot, but they only do what we tell them what to do.
The fact that WXNT routinely allows dead air at the top and bottom of each hour is to me sloppy at best, but a major CBS affiliate to run a five day old NWS alert is inexcusable. Even if it is on a sub channel the few people watch.

I could see them selling the entire cluster in the next few years if it stays on it's current path. I'm not sure if they've even made back what they bought it for yet.

If they sell it's unlikely they'll get anywhere near what they paid for it.

And yes, LWS is not that dependable. A few weeks ago in the middle of freezing weather they ran an on-camera weather person calling for highs in the 90s.

For what it's worth, he is a distant relative on my former step-father's side of the family, though we have never met.

We both played ball, but he had a much better swing...and I gave up my <cough> "Promising" <cough> baseball career during my junior year of high school...I took a full time job at WHYT, my hometown radio station, where I lived at the station from sunrise to sunset and then some a lot of the time..all downhill from there..lol..
