Huh? How could they be rated by PPM if they were not encoded?

I think you are referring to the fact that the NY Univision stations are not subscribers to the rating service, which means they can not use the information for sales and presentation purposes.

A station does not have to be subscribed to encode.

Though Univision encodes but does not subscribe in New York, isn't it true that there are large PPM markets where Univision neither subscribes nor encodes? Perhaps that's where the Daily News reporter got facts confused.

If Univision didnt subscribe or encode, then how did they get numbers when thet were on 105.9?

Univision currently encodes in New York, but does not subscribe.

so, univision radio x 96.3 is not subscribe to arbitron ppm, but wskq 97.9 is !!! what? how in the world wskq 97.9 going to beat x 96.3 like that? thats cheating!

Let's try "PPM Ratings 101."

1. All stations are rated, provided they install an encoder.
2. If the station is home to the metro, the encoder is loaned free by Arbitron.
3. Stations outside the metro which may believe that they have metro audience may rent an encoder for a minimal fee.
4. All stations which are encoded and which show a minimal amount of listening (see the Arbitron website for the MRS criteria) are included in Arbitron market reports.
5. Although all stations that are encoded are included in the ratings reports if they have even minimal ratings, for a station to have the right to use the ratings for sales and management purposes, they must be a paid subscriber.
6. Stations that wish to use the data for sales, etc., can contract for a subscription.
7. Whether subscribed or not, the ratings numbers are the same, as long as the station encodes.
8. A few stations don't encode; they tend to be very small stations in the NY market.
9. Your knowlege of how radio stations work is so minimal, it may be a negative number.

;) everything looks fine at 96.3, dj yako is back. So, we have: luis jimenez 6-11, yako 11-3, kazzanova 3-7...we only need nelly carrion to finalized the " puerto rican project".

LOL! and WSKQ thought that with la Megatombola they were going to avoid losing so much audience. Even WPAT 93.1 dropped significantly down to 1.9!!
