The bad thing about translators is they crowd up the dial and can't cover medium sized cities or larger all that well. The good thing about translators is they seem to be a (relatively) affordable way for companies to get extra signals on the air, and they can sell the ads for cheep and not take a huge loss due to costs. Or, I guess, sell them as a bundle with the big gun signals for a comprehensive package covering multiple demographics. I honestly don't know how ads work on radio!
ADX was granted the move to the WDWR tower with 250 watts for 94.5. I have to wonder if they will move WNRP there and do something else with 92.3, or if 94.5 is being reserved for something else. WEBY, or a new format all together. Those HD2/3 channels are just sitting there, doing nothing on WYCT. *wink, wink*
Speaking of Hale, I noticed that ADX filed an informal objection to an application Hale filed in FWB for a translator on 94.3. Hale wants to move to 98.3. Which is not allowed by the rules for minor modifications. Oops. You'd think a seasoned broadcaster like Omni would know better.
But then, I noticed something even worse in Mobile; WERM filed a app to make the 1220 signal permanent to Mobile, where it's been transmitting for ages on a strung-out STA. But in the filing, they included data and graphics for 1550 in Bolton, Mississippi instead. That's a signal they're trying to move from 1540 in Greenwood down to Bolton, in the Jackson market. And that filing was all akimbo as well.
Fun times.
