Yahoo Finance launches as 24/7 channel on Verizon

Article says it's on Verizon FIOS Channel 604. FIOS is a form of cable TV, no?

It's fiber optic. Some people use it as an alternative. However if this channel is to compete against CNBC and Fox News, it'll need wider distribution.

Somehow I don't expect DirecTV will pick it up.

Altice bought Cheddar and put it on Optimum channel 84. There's also Bloomberg. How many businesses channels do we need?

That doesn't ever appear to be the consideration. But at some point, the marketplace will make that decision.

I'd imagine there's no shortage of businesses wanting to pitch their services to people who play the markets, no matter how few people are watching the channel. Sports channels would be in the same boat were all of their viewers gamblers, but there are still many people who watch sports purely for the entertainment. Hardly anyone without an interest in investing watches those business channels, right?

CNBC (1989)
Bloomberg Television (1994)
FOX Business (2007)
Cheddar Business (2017 on linear TV)
Yahoo Finance (2020 on linear TV)

When the market crashes and the next Great Depression begins, all those stock tout services and money handlers will probably will be replaced by mom-and-pops selling pencils and apples from their street-corner HQs -- and retailers selling sharp instruments and incendiary devices for fleeced investors to attack the former advertisers with!
