Yes, ABC Family Channel Is Airing "Coyote Ugly"

to me it is unfortunate that the cable channels that had a particular kind of programing are getting so generic.

it was nice when if you wanted a particular kind of program you could go to a certian channel and see that kind of program at any time.

it seems branding is a thing of the past.

It's an evolution of the branding. 15 years ago the club where I work Illusions in Wolcott, CT was exclusively a Country bar. For the past 6 or 7 years they've changed it up and play 65% Non-Country Music to 35% Country. Non-Country music includes: Top 40, Classic/Southern Rock, Hip-Hop, Techno, Reggaeton, etc. It's still Illusions with the mechanical bull, the Nascar Posters, the line dancing, etc, but it's an evolution of the Illusions Brand.

the evolution of branding is being so genaric you are not branded?

A lot of their programming aimed at teens is quite uncomfortable to their parents.
They have not actually been a "family" channel for quite some time.

I guess Pat Robertson is too busy making bizarre predictions to complain.

Apparently as long as they stick with the contract and carry "The 700 Club" and leave "Family" in the name, Pat will not mind what airs on ABC Family.
Then ABC should rename the channel, "The ABC Xtreme Family Channel". That way the "Family" is still in the name but the word "Xtreme" should show that is not any type of family programming.

No doubt they'll get right on that to appease a handful of message board types.

The rating of a movie is pretty much meaningless when the movie comes to TV. This particular movie probably can't be cleaned up to the point where it is family friendly, but many movies can. Even movies that were R to start with.

They could change the name to "ABC Dysfunctional Family"! :D

The tagline is: "ABC Family -- A NEW kind of family". Their key shows: The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Pretty Little Liars, and Switched at Birth. The college family drama "Greek" just wrapped up its run a few months ago. Sounds like the modern family to me!

"Leave It To Beaver" it's not!!! I really like "Switched at Birth". It's the first show to significantly address hearing impaired issues. Refreshing! Secret Life has degenerated into a hot mess -- not sure where it's going at all. Clearly, ABC Family was not intending to show the first part of the season and the second part of the season back to back. And the story line is straining belief...

I agree- the need for "wholesome" family entertainment is antiquated. "Wholesome" families no longer exist in the traditional sense. For the first time in our country's history, the majority of Americans are single, not married, and families come in all shapes and sizes. TV represents this trend in demographics.

Surprised when ABC took over they didn't want to use the Disney name instead of ABC. Im sure it would be more family with the Disney name in it instead ABC. More family movies and shows.

despite the way families are portrayed on tv and in the movies there are still families that are as you say "wholesome" or in other words not disfunctional.

there may be more single people but the traditional families are out there.one of my pet peaves is about every family is disfunctional in movies or tv shows.what is wrong with a family on a tv show or movie getting along ?why cant a network series have a happy family?or a new series on tnt, tbs , usa or the other cable networks?

how about a feature film where the parents get along and the kids get along with their siblings and parents?it can be good and entertaning.of course it would take a writer working on good story and not the easy approach disfunctional movie families give writers.

Actually, there was a wholesome family show on "ABC Family". It was called Lincoln Heights, a relatively "normal' family drama, featuring an African-American family. I liked it alot, but the ratings must not have been great.

"Switched at Birth" is quite promising and relatively wholesome, although the premise is a bit "iffy".

"Disney Family" (remember, Robertson requires "Family" in the channel name for all eternity) would have likely been confused with the "Disney Channel" at the time. Here, for instance, they're about 4 or 5 spaces apart on cable.

There is. Give "Ozzie & Harriett" or "Leave It To Beaver" a try.
