You want good sounding radio? Then move to Austin.

I was using my USB port and also streaming Pandora through my FM band, but the sound quality was jumpy. SiriusXM has been great. One dropout along Cypresswood Drive where I usually experience a slight disruption, but other than that, it's been well worth the cost.

I think I was referring to using 2 PC's 1 to Stream and the other to record onto MP3 to a flash drive, or what I called it a jump drive. And unplugging it from the usb port from the PC onto the car's USB port, playing a super long MP3 file. Like copying a regular MP3 file.

Next time my father visits my Aunt who lives on Cypresswood Drive, a block from I-45 I will have to ask him about the dropout issue on XM radio.

Used to be an Albertson's at the corner, what is that store now, BTW?

Haven't seen an Albertson's since we moved out here. The major retailers are Best Buy, Staples, SuperTarget. SiriusXM usually drops out for me just as I'm going through the double lights at Cypresswood/Holzwarth (there's a Walgreen's on that corner, too). Just a second or two of interruption. Of course, as soon as I pull into my garage, the TechShield kills it dead.

Houston has better Italian restaurants and Tex-Mex than Austin, but not radio. You got it good over there. I am already craving Antonio's Flying Pizza right now! or some Los Tios! Downtown Austin has one but the pizza taste like Chef Boyardee, and they are right across the street from City Hall.

So with that I add a positive note about Houston, just bring your tapes/CD's, IPods, or MP3 players with you! I still say the last great station Houston had left was KTJM 98.5 Houston's Jammin Hits.

Austin is not better than Houston by a LONG shot. Thanks to Internet radio, the only station I listen to in Austin is Mega HD-2. When I'm at home I'll crank on the HD Radio.

Hop in the car...open the windows, crank up KLBJ, and head DT...stop in at El Patio on Guadalupe for some awesome chips & hot sauce, big chips and queso, enchiladas, ritas and coconut pralines...head over to 6th and hit the bars..get a slice of heaven from Roppolo's Pizza before heading home....that's how we do it in Austin ...

Not the same. Isn't that Ropoolo's Pizza from a mobile food vendor? No thanks.
I would crank up KLBJ-AM, and KXBT over KLBJ 93.7.

I would crank up any station in Houston over any station in Austin. Anytime I'm in and around Austin I crank on my blue tooth phone and listen to my mp3s or tune.fm app.

thats the point...its not the same...and that's what makes austin "austin". Roppolos can be enjoyed at their indoor location or out of the food trailer...either one is delicious just depends on what is more convenient at the moment. I do agree with you regarding KXBT...it is a great station to roll around town to...

I find myself doing the same thing when I am in Houston!!

Must be a older crowd in here. I can't stand Austin radio, never adds ANYTHING new, KVET plays the same playlist over and over tries to sound like KASE..., no good talk show in the morning any more. The beat sounds almost like KISS FM (96.7) . I would of picked San antonio as better FM than Austin. which San antonio has pretty good statiions.

Here, Here! San Antonio radio blows the door off of Houston and Austin.

...and who you calling old?!?!? ;)

Appreciate your observations of Austin radio...likewise, some thoughts on Houston radio in comparison...KKBQ sounds like KILT (and the bashing crap is so annoying), Country Legends plays same playlist over and over, Hot 95 sounds like bubble gum AM radio. Arrow, Eagle, the Box and Sunny all have cute little names and that's about it..KHMX puts you to sleep...KRBE has remained decent...and KLOL, WOW, what do you say about that one???...I have to agree with you on the morning show issue in Austin...alot of babble with no point...KLBJ being the worst!! Also agree that SA radio is decent...always has had a lot to offer.

San Antonio radio has managed to keep an oldies station, while Houston remains the largest market in the country without one. Austin has managed to keep a rock station, while our former rock station is now Spanish language.

klbj isnt the best rock station i have heard... i like c 101.3 better than klbj.

Well, since Houston doesn't have one at all, KLBJ would be very welcome if they could somehow change frequencies and make it to Houston.

I purposely called KONO oldies, because if I called them classic hits, somebody would say the Eagle is classic hits. There is a HUGE difference between classic hits on KONO and classic hits on the Eagle. I don't know what the Eagle is - but its not classic rock, and its not oldies. I wouldn't even call it classic hits. Maybe - Hotel California - all day every day 24/7.

Yeah...KONO is an awesome oldies station...KXBT is good too, but spins some different things...which makes me like them both. My understanding is that KXBT might (or already has been) bought by UT...and will change formats to something like NPR .... KLBJ is and hopefully always will be "The Rock of Austin"...we will keep our fingers crossed.

Well as I said before I don't think Austin has the best radio. San antonio, Corpus even Houston I think has better radio. When I'm at home near Austin I DX down to San antonio, it's getting harder and harder in my truck though with all the translators popping up around Austin.

That Albertson's at I-45 and Cypresswood in Spring, just north of Houston, is now a Conn's. And the pizza restaurant across the street from Austin City Hall is Coal Vines, a Dallas import. It's on the north side of 2nd St. between Guadalupe and Lavaca, at the base of the W Hotel, which is also home to ACL Live.

Thanks for that info! Coal Vines, must not be real Italian!!!
Frank and Angie's has decent pizza, even though some of their menu items like iced tea is over the top when it comes to pricing.

Since KXBT isn't flipping until the end of the year, as I seen the new KUT news/talk schedule I won't be taking my HD radio with me on my next trip to Houston, I will in January if Megabus pricing is still super cheap. I will make a note to bring my 3.5mm cable, along with my laptop and walkman to record some Houston radio, it will get me something to do while my pizza is being made.

This thread is funny now.

I still say Austin is the worst. When they have 2 country stations owned by the same company sounding the same. a top 40 station and hip hop station both sounding the same. Austin just has plain boring radio.
