Young B'Casting's latest financials-Sets conf. call for Tues. May 6, Noon PDT

Young Broadcasting says things are looking up in its latest quarterly financial statement, although it is still operating at a loss. A $14.9 Million loss in the first quarter of 2008. That's less than the $25.3 Million loss it reported in the first quarter of 2007.

Political ads are contributing to added income, the company's spending is flat and operating expenses are down, the company says in the statement.

Read it here:

It doesn't name them.

Vince and Jim pretty much said the usual - everything is going fine and revenue is up and sorry no questions or comments about the KRON sale.

End of story

"Ya think they will surprise us with an announcement of a sale of K R O N?"

Any announcement of an acutal sale of KRON would be a surprise to me.

There was some mention this morning on the YBTVA message board that KRON was possibly going to be a FOX station....but how would this pan out if KTVU is the FOX station?

This whole sale is going back and forth - one week its NBC next week its FOX kinda not sure which direction its going now....

The "direction it's going" is sideways. In my cynical opinion, there are no serious offers, and people have to talk about something, so they keep recycling the same old rumors.

Just saw an article that stated WRC Washington NBC4 and The Bay Area's NBC11 KNTV may be up for sale. I would imagine that FOX would love to take over that San Jose facility. If that would happen no doubt Hearst would look into making KRON an NBC affiliate.

Where did you see this article? I just went on Google and found nothing.

Even if this is true - again - the speculation is all circular. It's been said here that Fox and KTVU have a mutually beneficial relationship, and that Fox would not be interested in buying KRON. Then it doesn't logically follow that Fox would be interested in buying KNTV, does it? Their San Jose facility may be state-of-the art out there on North First St. among all the high tech campuses, but otherwise - why not buy KRON and have your studios in San Francisco?

I agree. They could move the equipment to San Francisco easily.

The WRC-TV and KNTV rumor comes on the heels of the sale of WTMJ and WVIT. NBC must be cutting to the bone. Selling the Washington is suspicious since the station provides a base to cover political stories; maybe it's related to the DTV transition and disposing the stations to make it someone else's problem? After the partnership with KXAS and KNSD, their full O&O's will be in the top 4 markets. But then again Washington has been dropping in the rankings as evidenced by Atlanta overtaking them last season. I wonder if Houston will end up in the #9 spot because of Washington instead of moving up on its own? NBC has had opportunity pass them by lately since they couldn't get KYW-TV, then the KRON fiasco, and now they are the lowest rated major network.

"I bet NBC will demand something for it."

I assume the "it" you are referring to is KNTV? Assuming NBC/U is going to sell it, they would be absolutely insane to not stipulate as part of the sale that KNTV remain an NBC affiliate, unless there is a companion deal in the works for another local affiliate. Oooh...could it be KRON?...let the speculation begin yet again.

That kind of stupidity is not likely, unless your talking about...well...Young Broadcasting.

Again - like KRON in 01 - the value of KNTV is primarily due to the fact that it carries NBC programming. In an era when most viewers have literally hundreds of viewing choices via cable and satellite, the Bay Area does not need another independent station stripping moldy re-runs, syndicated "court" shows and infomercials.

Today there seem to be a flurry of discussion regarding NBC buying Young Broadcasting. The YBTVA stocks took a jump and something may be brewing with Moelis the outside firm representing the sale of the KRON.

It's been one month already!
Must be having a hard time deciding which offer to go with. They must be unindated with all kinds of record breaking offers! ;D
