Hello All,
First Time Poster here, and was wondering if anyone remembered or knows what happened to a Good Morning Man DJ from both MMR and YSP in the early 80's named Steve Sutton?? He went by "STEVESKI" and was a rival of the then number one Morning DJ "Harvey in the Morning" on WIOQ....also rivaled DeBella he had a keen snese of humor and was a down to earth guy. I spoke with Anita Gevinson aka "ANITA" who is doing Traffic now in California for a few stations. I told her about Ed Sciaky dying and that there may be an opportunity for her on MGK.....she ended up guest DJing on MGK for a bit....Appreciate any info on Steveski though....Thanks, Ray

I heard he got whacked by Joey Bag 'O Donuts late one night on a cheese steak run down in South Philly.

Sam.....

You oughtta get Whacked....really...know what I mean??? RayR

Oh Well,
I was looking for a serious answer, but I only get replies from the same 5 people that are regulars at the Sam Litt Dance Machine Parties..... Hopefully Bill Wright Sr. can bring more faces than the usual 5. Hint.....drop the word Dance from the Title...kinda hard to see the same 5 people get off their bar stools and dance to "Sittin on the Dock of the Bay"....57 Chevy Spinners Night...Cupid Draw Back your Bow.....Let your Arrow go to John's Water Ice.....Look out for Skinny Joey...or Possibly the Jewish Bomber....Never Know...Careful Sam....See ya at the Quality Inn....Big Time in Essington...Ray

Steve Sutton worked mornings at WMMR in 1981-82. He was moved to middays in the spring of 1982 when 'MMR put Steve Martarano and Anita on in the mornings. That didn't last long, but Steve stayed in the midday slot at WMMR until November 1983. Incidentally, Pierre Robert moved from overnights to the midday spot to replace Steve and has been there ever since. After honoring his non-compete clause, Steveski went to WYSP in March of 1984. He did mornings for awhile, then moved to middays. I don't know if he was part of the infamous "Labor Day Massacre" of 1985 at 'YSP. The last time I heard Steveski was in the fall of 1988-he was working afternoons at WWDC-FM Washington.

Hey Rich,

Thank you very much for the well informed answer. I appreciate all of the dates, etc....It takes me back to those days, and gives me more of a mental picture of the times. Damn, I miss those days of radio. I do remember him last of YSP.....what was the Labor Day Massacre of 1985?? Was that the change of Format to Heavy Metal Rock?? If so, what happened, they axed all of the former DJ's?? Also, what was meant by the honoring of his non compete clause in contract?

When I talked with Anita on phone, she said she didn't know what became of Steveski, but though Debbi Calton might know, because she was friendly with all of them. Anita still keeps in contact with Debbi Calton. I did see the last siting of Steveski on a Washington Radio Station, when I was looking on the Net, but wasn't sure if he just gave up on Radio all together, or was still around somewhere. Its kinda strange, Anita did really good in her day, and now is only doing Traffic Reports in LA area. She isn't happy about it either. John Harvey "Harevy In the Morning" WIOQ after his last stint at Magic 103 Mornings in the 1990's was on Kids Shows on Nickelodeon, or Something. Then in about 2000 or so, I saw him on a Home Repair Show with some Woman....it was kind of like "This Old House" and he was doing sort of what Bob Vila did, helping and explaining Home Repairs. And that was the last I saw of Harvey. Seeing Anita and Harvey disappear when they both still wanted to be DJing, and Bubba John still around confuses me. Thanks, Ray

On Labor Day 1985 WYSP cleaned house and fired much of their airstaff, including morning jock Anita. This was in response to the beating they were taking from WMMR, which was extremely hot at the time. John DeBella destroyed all competition with the Zoo, and 'MMR was getting 10 shares in the ratings (it was a good old-fashioned radio war ala WFIL and WIBG in the 1960s). 'YSP tried to counter DeBella with Scruff Connors in the morning, but he only lasted a year. He was fired in the summer of 1986 and replaced by...Howard Stern. The rest is history.
Steve Sutton had a clause in his contract that many radio and TV personalities have-if fired they can't work for a competitor for X amount of months. Steve's clause ended in March of 1984, and he was able to go on the air.

Hope this helps.

Thanks again Rich....

I just found this.......
April 1, 2004
Sutton Joins Air America
Steve Sutton, who was once "Steveski" on rocker DC101 and "Steve" of defunct W-Lite WLTT (now WARW), joins the new lefty talk radio network Air America as VP of programming and operations. Most recently, Sutton was program director for WSPD, a Clear Channel news talker in Toledo

I just found out, Steve Sutton was not his real name. It is Steve Sinton.....he is very involved in Democrat Politics now. Actually running for some sort of office. He has a brother who is also in politics, name Jon. I thought it sounded odd, when Anita kept referring to him as Sinton...I thought she was pronouncing his name wrong. But I found an article, showing he used the name Sutton on Air/Radio...aka Steveski and STEVE....so, the missing element was his real last name, Sinton...he is still active in Left Wing Radio....Clear Channel....Air America...etc... Ray

Steve Sinton, down in Atlanta, was running for the US House of Representatives no less. It was in one of those dyed in the wool right wing districts where he got whacked in the general, but that he was running was pretty amazing all by itself.

We got ion touch over that, and Steve reported he is quite happy doing what he's doing down 'Lanta way.

Just a little more info about Steve Sinton's run for Congress. It was the 2006 elections, and he ran in Georgia's 6th District and lost to incumbant Rep. Tom Price.

A couple lines from his Congressional campaign powerpoint presentation:

No more Sprawl; developers must be responsible for their impact on the community.

We need schools that teach, where over-crowding and trailers in parking lots are not the norm.

Traffic on the Northside is a nightmare, and it lowers the standard of living that brought us here. I’ve a plan to do something about it.

Price is still that district's Representative in Congress in this year's new Congress, and Steve is apparently still on talk radio.

Hey RealT,
Thanks for the replies.....Yes, much of what you say, is what I found after much research. I actually received a phone call from Steve, but was not at home. He says we will catch up, Ive got the right number. Steve did alot for himself, much more than the jokesters on this board would have ever imagined.....Ray

Steve

Ray, do you by any chance have or know where I can find Steve's e-mail address? I listened a great deal to him many years ago, and would love to let him know how much I appreciated him and a few other things. If you can help, I would be grateful! Thanks, Ginger-lyn

PS If you don't want to post it here, go to my Facebook page and PM me. It's under my name as it should appear here (this is my first post so I'm not sure what it looks like once it's posted).

Re: Steveski

I wanted to let you know Sutton was not his real last name, but others beat me to it. I went to Temply with his wife Harriet. Dont know if they are still together. She was very pretty. And bright. I think she graduated with honors. (R-T-F). Harvey was one of the smoothest sounding DJ's ever ...in Philly. I grew up listening to him and Ed Schiaky, and had the privilege of working with Ed when KYW and WYSP were housed together at 5th and Market. And DeBella and Don Lancer and Jim O'Brian and the genius Neal Rogers in Miami and so many other greats. (God, I'm old!). Please tell Anita that Elaine says hello. She and Helen Leicht blazed the trail for the rest of us women on air. Does anyone remember Maureen Flaherty? She is the first woman I ever heard on air in Philly's radio heyday. I even remember the Mo in the Snow promotions. (Right before I would take the wheel of my automobile and swing on down to Ideal). :)
