The Magic Christian was one of the first disc jockeys I can remember listening to, when I caught RADIO FEVER at 9 years old. He was one of the best of the bosses, and a big influence to a lot of us, who came after.
Vaya con Dios, Magic Christian! Happy Trails, man This now concludes our broadcast day...

"Magic" was actually at KRIZ not KRUX -- did 6-9 AM and served as PD (in 1972, with Buzz Bennett consulting) but was eventually fired for "insubordination" (by GM Gary Stevens).

Chuck was brought in to succeed Heywood on Arizona's Morning News on KTAR in the early 90's. After a few months, he was moved to late night talk.

Can't remember if they were pre or post Magic Christian, but the Shapres (Jim & Melissa) did one fine job of hosting KT'R's morning news.

Doc:

They were post-Magic. Heywood came back to KTAR for another run (with KCCF in between). I got there in summer of 2000, and I think it was 2001 or 2002 that Heywood was out again (and back to KFYI), with Jim and Melissa replacing him.

Magic actually worked at KOOL for short time in early 90's as well. [91-92?]

I talked to Chuck all the time, right up until he passed....I played his grandma in wvbf in Boston, and stayed in touch with him over the last 35 years, he had so much to tell, his stories were so unbelievable....I believe he never got the credit he so deserved, I loved this man, he will be sorely missed..hours and hours of pep talks he gave to me when I was going thru my cancer, I am so sorry I didn't call him more...goodbye my dear friend.....
