Former Phoenix news people on Aljazeera America

We've been checking out Aljazeera America News since Tuesday's debut. There are lots of familiar faces formerly with other news outlets.

Two familiar Phoenix faces we've observed are ABC15's Lori Jane Gliha and KTVK's Ross Shimabutu.
Anybody else noticed?

apparently they hve cut off their live streams since debuting on cable.

I understand from posts in the National TV forum that the "english" stream of Aljazeera was blocked to North American IP addresses and people were told to go to the new Aljazeera America channel.

Aljazerra America...now there's a slap in the face if ever there was one. It's a bit like sushi vendors setting up in Honolulu after Pearl Harbor.

I completely disagree. Al Jazeera, despite what many Americans might think, has become a credible international news operation on the level of the BBC.

I haven't seen Al Jazeera, other than clips from them used by other news outlets, but I'm skeptical of their journalistic integrity for two reasons:

1) They are owned by the Qatari government. I have a general distrust of news from any government-owned source - even ASU. Governments conveniently omit certain things that may be unfavorable to them. That's why a free and independent press was so crucial to the founding of our country.

2) They originate from a Muslim country. Yes, Qatar is a bit more secular than most, but it's still a Muslim country, and Muslims in that part of the world aren't exactly tolerant of criticism. Also in that part of the world, clerics often hold more sway than government officials. Is Al Jazeera ever critical of Islam? I doubt it, but would be pleasantly surprised if they are.

I agree, except I think it better than BBC! And what the heck is "sushi vendors setting up on Pearl Harbor" have to do with Al Jazeera? Did Qatar do something? Aren't they the country that paid (billions) our US govt to build a base there?

I used to have one of those FTA satellite systems (still do but I need to install it in my new digs) boy, talk about news. I watched programs and stories they'd never air here. Some of it was pretty good. For those who are interested in a wide variety of content I highly recommend investing in one of those FTA (Ku band, satellite with the most free to airs is Galaxy 19). One of my favorite stations was IraqTV - they had a habit of airing 1960s footage of the Bronx showing a bunch of bums and winos lying in their own filth in the gutter as an example of how Americans REALLY are living. Good times. On the other hand, it was Al Jazeera that I was watching and exposed to me that phony "Palestinians rejoice over 9/11 tragedy" as in reality, a celebration about some local politician winning an election that had taken place months before 9/11 business, and that other story concerning the "mistaken identity" about the hijackers, who were found alive and well in other countries, living their lives wondering why their names and faces were on American TV as the ones responsible for the biggest terrorist attack in our history.

I like Al Jazeera. Not perfect, but another choice to turn to instead of the other crap we have to watch.

AlJazeera America seems to do a lot of world news while also covering USA news as well. I have to agree that we need more quality hard news
carriers. We can watch (& listen) to several different sources and reach a more informed position. I cannot understand the hard nosed opinion
of my life long buddy who swears Fox News is his only source on TV and listens to AM 960 The Patriot almost exclusively.

It would seem logical, to not get too cozy with any ONE (or two) source(s)...
That's why they have multiple choices with TV, radio and printed news outlets.
