Glover Out, St. Pierre in at WHJJ

I think WHJJ showed poor taste in doing this to Helen Glover, letting her go right after her show at 10:00 today without no advance notice. She won the AP Award for best talk show for 4 years and had a loyal following. Maybe not the high ratings, but WHJJ's ratings issues in my opinion are not due solely to Helen. And no offense to Ron St Pierre who is a good talk show host, but I just don't think replacing him for Helen will greatly improve WHJJ's ratings. Too many people have made a habit of tuning in to WPRO and do not want to change - probably the same reason that WLNE-TV does not get high ratings no matter how good their news product is, it's all due to people's habits and tradition of staying with what they are familiar with doing.

IIRC, Mr. St. Pierre was one of the key factors of WHJJ's success as THE talk station of the '80s. He knows what he's doing and I'm confident that his efforts will certainly have positive results in 920's future Books!

I don't think WHJJ will ever have success again given the fact that their schedule is almost entirely syndicated and the hosts they have are dragging down talk radio in general. And Clear Channel is not known for opening up the purse strings to go local other than maybe morning and afternoon drive.

So..

Any tv ads promoting St Pierre's arrival? Nope..

Billboards? Nyet.

Bus Signage? Uh-no.

Banner ads on the interwebs? Not sure..

So what changes?

Nothing...

'HJJ is a clearing house for whatever Clear Channel has on the bird..nothing more..

Unfortunately it's still not the 1980's. WHJJ is nothing like it used to be. It's going to take more than one man to change that.

Boy does that station need help. Tried listening but had to tune out. Ron Rambling on and on.No interaction with anyone more blah blah on stuff I already heard about a couple of days before. Recorded News, weather and traffic. No back and forth with any of them.No its not the 1980's to much competition to radio and please put HJJ to rest. Its done.Ron is not the saver .(yawn sfx here)......Going back to bed.

He won't do a bad job. This is neither a good nor bad move. I'm not privy to Helen's numbers but for all the years Ron has been in RI media (including TV) he isn't that well known outside the radio community. He was basically a sidekick to Buddy and before that a lot of his experience has been off-air programming. He even left the market for a time IIRC. It's a good move for him but just a programming shuffle for WHJJ and nothing more.

Ron used to be a sports anchor on channel 12 and he did voiceovers for them too. I've still got some audio tapes of him from when I was a kid.
