1260 KMZT is no in HD

Sorry, since I am offline at home,
I couldn't tell you that KMZT has
been in HD since at least Saturday,
but when I checked, they didn't ID
their AM HD. Certainly in the
5and3quarter years I am enjoying
HD-Radio, this is the first new
startion, usually they have been
several dropping HD, such as
570, 710, 1150

If you are offline, how are you able to post here? Also what exactly are you telling us again?

Scott Fybush is well known on RadioDiscussions.com. He is a radio industry writer, editor of NorthEast Radio Watch and publisher of broadcasting tower calendars. In 2007 he wrote a column---the link is below---about KMZT's switch to HD. Of course that is when the station was on FM. Now the station is on AM---and in the year 2013, how many people listen to classical music on AM? In the most recent ratings, KUSC had a 1.7% audience share and KMZT's share was below 0.1. But I'm sure that KMZT's five listeners appreciate the news that Chime has just shared.

According to the FCC KMZT is not licensed for HD on AM. http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/sta_list.pl

At one time I believe that they had intended to do so but they never did. The HD logos on their website are probably for KKGO which simulcasts their programming on the HD-2 channel.

Sorry, earlier my home Uverse was
off, was useing a less than
desireable setup to post. OK just
checked on my SONY, and 1260 goes
in HD, but music is delayed by
several seconds. Since I am totally
blind, I am not going by logos.
To clarify my other point, many
AM's have dropped HD
before-and-during the time I have
owned a receiver. We've even lost
some FM's. But just like the 1980s
excitement of examing a cable
lineup, I still try-and-look around
each day

I rechecked KMZT and according to the FCC record they are NOT licensed for Hybrid (digital). http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/sta_det.pl?Facility_id=43937

They were for a time listed on the IBOC website as digital but no longer. That was back in their Timeless Standards era.

"We are now testing the addition of digital HD technology to our AM station. The quality and fidelity that HD has added to our AM analogue signal is astonishing. The HD is currently not on due to installation adjustments being made.

But I miss that HD sound and am eager for the final installation to be made so that I can hear our Classical programming with interference free high fidelity in stereo.

I urge fellow broadcasters to add compelling program content, and digital technology to their AM stations. The audience and the advertising revenue will follow.” - Saul Levine, President, Mount Wilson FM Broadcasters, Inc."

You are to be applauded for being both an independent and innovative local programmer and owner. People like you and Joe Mullins in Ohio are keeping real radio alive. I enjoy your classical music via the internet as well s both your and Mr. Mullins' classic country. Seems a bit incongruous but I do appreciate both because good music is good no matter how it gets categorized. Loved you adult standards when I lived in The Valley as well.

You can actually call up his Cluster in WLA and speak with Saul. Seeing the Radio Industry change and for the worse, it is refreshing to see an owner like Saul Levine. I'm not sure how many Broadcast Groups don't carry debt, but Saul owns his stations outright, and has done some really different things. If they don't work well so be it. We have heard how cheap he is, and that he doesn't know what he's doing. He offered me a half year contract at $25K which would have been $50K a year, and that was in 93. Instead I took a $7 hour full time position with benefits ($15K a year at General Telephone & Water). I bet their water was as bad as their phone service? In any case I made a mistake and wish I took the radio gig. 7 months later he changed format and fired the one person staff. Oh and I got Carpal Tunnel at the Telco. Then that darn earthquake in 94 and our building broke. All Brick GTE buildings didn't do to well!
