Aug. ratings are out and WCBS takes the lead

Including the always-a-crowd-favorite "Brown Eyed Girl"?

#38 on the WCBS Labor Day 500. In just 4 more years this crowd favorite turns the big 5~Oh!! So is it an Oldie, Classic Hit or a Classic Oldie?

And speaking of oldies, CBS-FM is now #1 for the first time in 3 years, where did the oldies go? You can find your music on "Fox Oldies" on WGNY-FM at 98.9 in the Hudson Valley. They played the same music, just like the way it sounded on WCBS-FM back in the pre-Jack era (1972-2005). I've posted airchecks of "Fox Oldies" from the last month or so, and there were no jocks on there. It was on right after "Rock, Roll & Remember" with the late great Dick Clark. I've posted part 1 at around 6:10 and went all the way through. I recorded on my reel-to-reel tape using 1 7/8 IPS, and the sound quality was not that great, but it was a bit okay for the most part. Enjoy!

And here is the 12:00 AM shift with no jocks where it takes you all the way to Van Ritshie's time. It's in 2 parts.

Tell us what you think about these airchecks of WGNY's "Fox Oldies". This is the station that appeals to people who grew up with WCBS-FM when it first hit the airwaves back on 7/7/72 with such great jocks like Bill Brown, Don K Reed, Harry Harrison, Ron Lundy, Bruce Morrow, Bob Shannon, Dan Ingram, Bobby Jay and others.

"Fox Oldies" is a better sounding station than the original CBS-FM, because it's in the Hudson Valley.

And in addition to all of that, let's jump back to 2011, and that was 2 years ago where they had ab article avout oldies radio cominf back to the Hudson Valley which is WGNY's "Fox Oldies". It's in the Daily Freeman, but you should read it and explain about this format. I wish maybe New York City needs another oldies station that plays pre-64 music to compete with WCBS-FM. Here is a link to a Daily Freeman article.

I guess that "Fox Oldies" has brought in some of its long time WCBS-FM's loyal listeners to the format. But they're still playing a lot of pre-1964 music like the one that WCBS-FM used to sounsd back when it was an oldies station (pre-Jack) era.

And I forgot to say, congrats to CBS-FM for being #1 at the top when it's now a classic hits station. And you can get your oldies fix, you should listen to WGNY's "Fox Oldies" via stream at http://www.foxradio.net or listen to it via TuneIn on smartphones and iPhones. This would bring some transplant New York listeners would hear "Fox Oldies". Rememver when Mark Simone left WABC back at the beginning of January? Yep! As you know, the "Saturday Night"/"Aaturday Night Oldies" show was cancelled until he went to WOR for middays which is a dumb move for the station. Thanks to "Fox Oldies" for this.

CBS-FM's "top 500" lists haven't meant much since they deliberately removed "In the Still of the Night" from the voting because it made them sound too old for it to always be voted #1. But maybe in a few more years they'll play the Boyz II Men version!

Hopefully they won't switch out Brown Eyed Girl with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elQlvF8I6kc YIKES! Fact remains, after 46 years the Van Morrison classic still has legs. Heard it the other day on SiriusXM Classic Vinyl...'nuff said.

You mean this version? I would love to hear Boyz II Men doing their version of "In the Still of the Nite" as CBS-FM might add a lot of 90's music to the classic hits station in a few years. Here is what it sounded like.

I remember a few weeks ago on Sunday morning at around 8:30 AM in the morning, WGNY's "Fox Oldies" was playing the original version by the Five Satins and it is still the quenicential New York song and it is still a New York favorite. But I would love to see it come back. But thank goodness that oldies survives in the Hudson Valley and "Fox Oldies" is playing right now.
