Clear Channel Sells Its SiriusXM Interests for $135.5 Million.

Way back in 1999 when XM Radio was gearing up its operations, Clear Channel was an initial investor putting in $83.1 million and getting the right to program some of the satcaster’s music and talk channels. Now, CC sells its interest in the company for $135.5 million – the value of the stock – and that means most of the CC-programmed content will disappear from the XM Radio platform. That’ll include some of the company’s music FMs such as hip hop WGCI, Chicago; country signal WSIX, Nashville and hot AC WLIT, Chicago. But two of the CC-radio channels are expected to stay on the XM platform – WHTZ, New York and KIIS, Los Angeles. It also means the talk radio channel on the XM platform will see talent like Glenn Beck, Bob & Tom, Todd Schnitt as well as Fox Sports Radio programming go away.

Clear Channel's offerings on XM include KIIS, WHTZ, WSIX, WGCI, WLTM (not WLIT), Sixx Sense, Extreme Talk, America's Talk, Talk Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and Reach MD. A few of the shows have already put messages on their websites asking listeners to contact Sirius XM and find them a new satellite home.
 
".... and find them a new satellite home." Or not. Use the new found bandwidth to inprove the sound on the existing channels.

Personally, I don't think they're should be two different channels on XM Radio airing Ryan Seacrest at the same time, so maybe XM Radio should remove one of the CHR stations and keep WSIX from Nashville, because I live in a market where their is NO country music radio station. I think WSIX is one of XM Radio's most popular channels.

That's the last thing on their minds right now. In fact they just launched a group of all new online music channels: . Some are speculating that some of the online channels will be coming to the 1.0 or 2.0 service in September. Again, just speculation. The new online channels include Vocal Pop, Beautiful Music 2.0, Jason Ellis, Hip Hop Chill, and 90s/2K Dance.

When I'm in the car I like to listen to Leo LaPorte on Saturday and Sunday afternoons on Ch 244. Other than that I don't listen to much of the rest. I bought Satellite Radio to get away from Clear Channel and the other terrestrial broadcasters.

Having said that, I can see this is a major shake up of the content on Sirius/XM. They would be wise to start making deals or some kind of announcement on what they plan to do. In whatever new offerings they provide I'd like to see just one Tech News channel. I just missed out on C-Net Radio when I got my first XM Radio.

Amen to that! I really hope they do boost the quality of some of their stations (particularly my favorite, The Verge). Not worth paying for a music station that sounds like it's broadcasting from the international space station.
 
I like the CBC Channels they have added. When did this happen? Cool to hear stuff from Canada.
 
I'm also listen to both weekend Leo Laporte shows. I've tried streaming them, but mobile streaming is so spotty, that it's useless.
 
It looks like the date has been delayed to late October, so XM channels 13, 57, 241, 242, 243, 244, 245, 246, and 247 will have slightly longer lifespans, and 243-245 just got internet streams for the first time, but come October 18th the following terrestrial based shows will leave satellite radio:

The Bobby Bones Show, After Midnite, CMT Country Countdown, Monsters in the Morning, Rover's Morning Glory, The Schnitt Show, The Philips Phile, The Bob and Tom Show, America's Trucking Network, Dr. Daliah, Quinn and Rose, Rick and Bubba, Alex Jones, Steve Malzberg, Janine Turner, The Rendezvous, Family Talk, Free Talk Live, Cigar Dave, Rudy Maxa's World, Real Estate Today, Leo Laporte, Science Fantastic, Star Talk, Gun Talk, Voice to America, The Jesus Christ Show, Handel on the Law, Keep Hope Alive w/Jesse Jackson, Animal Radio, Coast to Coast AM, Ground Zero w/Clyde Lewis, Dave Ramsey, Randi Rhodes, America Now w/Andy Dean, Gary Sullivan, Ron Wilson, The Weekend w/Joe Pags, Art Bell's Somewhere in Time, Bill Cunningham, Sixx Sense w/Nikki Sixx, Bronson & Christine, Delilah, The Breakfast Club, and the Fox Sports Radio network (except for Dan Patrick who will be heard elsewhere). I'm sure I'm missing a couple on the national level.

These channels also carry some brokered national shows like The Mutual Fund Show and Klean Radio, and brokered exclusive shows like Green Radio and Rich Dad Radio. Sirius XM historically doesn't carry brokered syndicated shows, but with how they've been operating lately, the money might change their minds.

Also some local DJs on WLTM/WGCI/WSIX will go, as well as the Joint Studios podcasts that Extreme Talk 243 has a deal with, or the Skeptics Guide podcast which airs on America's Talk 244's science/technology Saturday lineup, which I always listen to. There's also a couple shows Premiere produces exclusively for XM that have confirmed either leaving entirely or moving to an iHeartRadio stream.

If all of the Clear Channel stations were to leave the XM Channel line-up, you left out "Elvis Duran and the Morning Show", "On-Air with Ryan Seacrest", "American Top 40", and "Saturday Night Online Live with Romeo"
 
Except while CC syndicates Fox News Radio & Fox Sports Radio, they don't own the content because they don't own the networks. Because of this, News Corp. could still (And likely WILL) remain on the Sirius/XM platform

...you would have known that, as of July 1, Fox Sports and Fox News are no longer part of News Corporation. They now belong to 21st Century Fox.

CC does own the Fox Sports Radio content and the network. They're branded as Fox Sports Radio under a licensing agreement with Fox Sports.

News Corp split into two parts in June. Publishing and print went to a "new" News Corp, and broadcast and film went to 21st Century Fox. The latter is the legal successor to News Corp, despite the name. Today's News Corp is a new entity.

Rupert Murdoch controls both.

Correct. The confusion is over Fox Sports Radio, which has nothing to do with the Murdoch-owned entity known as Fox Sports. For some reason, the branding agreement that allows the radio network to use the Fox Sports name is tough for people to wrap their heads around.
